10. Goals
“highlighting the way the
High Line frames nature
within this distinct urban
space”
“ thinking about the
sculpture as a site of
experimentation”
“finding a way for the
sculpture to be essentially
tied to the experience of
movement on the High Line,
rather than being another
object to simply pass by.”
11. Materials
“In keeping with the desire
to disseminate the sculpture
into the larger city, I choose
mirrored stainless steel for
the main structure. The
reflective surface fractures
and mirrors the surrounding
landscape while also
amplifying the effect of the
changing light over the
course of the day. The thin
steel mimics the quality of a
drawn line, emphasizing the
sculpture as a perspective
drawing in space.”

Sze's practice exists at the intersection of sculpture, painting and architecture where her formal interest in light, air and movement is coupled with an intuitive understanding of colour and texture.
Twoperspectival architectural models that are bisected by the High Line path itself. The sculpture forms an open gateway that visually frames the views to the north and south, also allows park visitors to physically enter and pass through the space it outlines.
The architecture, complex and dynamic, acts as a bird, butterfly and insect observatory, with perches, feeding spots and birdbaths throughout.
What makes it good: Emerging from the shooting perspective lines of the landscape of the High Line, the sculpture extends through space like a perspective drawing in three dimensions. Very interesting
Perspective drawing in 3d: the view is different from every corner
Specially made for the high line
Interesting: site specific, made for this one place, unlike other paintings and sculptures that u can move around and display at different placesThe use of straight linesDifferent from her different works, this is doesn’t look as colorful but also unlike her other ones this model incorporates nature
“Living art” it is constantly changing. Looks different every time go depending on the time. The number/type of birds there. The weather. Looks different at winter and summerIt is not the model that makes up the artwork, it is the model at this place interacting with natureSomething new: the birds or any other animals are part of this artwork. “not another object to simply pass by.”
Not made so people can see it, so they can just walk by n think its beautiful, it is a place made for the living creatures in high line, people can also stay and observe the birds
