– i.e. How strongly it pulls on both its own e- and the e- of other

nonpolar, can have a big effect on the behavior
of the molecule.

• Occurs between two atoms of differing eneg
• Electrons are not shared equally

• This creates a slight polarity of charge in the

– Less eneg atom gains a slightly positive charge
• Note – oxygen is the big one here
