12. History Idea of a 4-year medical school for the Phoenix area dates back at least 25 years.. Now-famous 2004 Colorado river trip when the ASU and UA presidents reached an agreement with urging from Board of Regents Expand UA COM from Tucson to a second campus in Phoenix ASU as partner Initial ASU contribution would include a new Department of Biomedical Informatics 8

30. 26 Starting with the end in mind… The options: Continue to operate as we are now, a UA library whose med students have remote access to ASU library resources, or 2. Piecemeal together small solutions to ease the difficulties of access without spending significant monies, or 3. Aim to create a seamless Phoenix Biomedical Campus library system that serves all faculty, students and staff of the PBC regardless of home institution. 26 26
31. Challenges for users Locating materials Checking out print materials, media and equipment Accessing resources remotely 27
32. Challenges for Library Staff Administering the library has many complex reporting patterns Supervising Staff and Faculty Sharing Resources 28
45. Lessons Learned An almost entirely digital library IS different! Did not entirely gain upper library management enthusiasticengagement (at the University Librarian Level) Have not finalized fiscal arrangements/sharing Staffing and officing still a bit vague ABOR not yet directly engaged 36

This is the mission of the AHSL today. We will appreciate your ultimate advice as to its mission going forward. Will it be the PBCL? Or ??
This has been our guiding vision and mission
Good morningI am Here on behalf of the group who has been working together for over 2 years to plan a library for this campus. Introduce those present…note list on slide # 36Different than planning a lib that is based on serving the needs of a single institution and some of the challenges we discovered will be addressed today. Thank you for being here and for your interest in this aspect of the PBC.2--The fiscal and organizational impacts of working with publishers today
We will begin with a bit of history
This is part of an unprecedented effort by the City of Phoenix. the University of Arizona, Arizona State, Northern Arizona University and TGen in creating the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. This is Arizona’s newest Academic Health Center. (logos are brought in by animation with the final PBC coming in last)
Lindsey does 21-24
And here is our next step. The expansion of the campus with the construction of the Health Sciences Education Building includes space for the expansion of the medical school as well as the addition of the UA College of Pharmacy, the ASU College of Nursing and parts of the allied health school from NAU. This creates more critical mass to the campus and brings much-needed construction jobs to Phoenix and, later, well-paying research- and education-related jobs. That’s an important point to this planned project.
