Your fundraising plan is multifaceted—consisting of events, personal relationship building, direct mail, online giving and more. While relationships and the events and activities that build these relationships are an evergreen part of your fundraising plan, the way we communicate with donors is changing. The efficacy and relevancy of direct mail communication efforts has changed dramatically in the past few years. Pundits predict that we are reaching a tipping point. Direct mail is declining as the millennial generation handles all of their transactions online. Millennial givers gave more than $10B last year and nearly all of it was online. So…as you navigate this fast-changing environment, we are excited to share with you today 10 proven strategies for raising more money on GiveMN.
GiveMN's Status Widgets act like regular images on the web, but they stay current by showing how much money has been raised so far. Clicking one takes people to the project.
QR codes make it easier for people with smartphones to get to your fundraising page. Instead of typing in lengthy URLs, you can use a barcode scanning application running on your iPhone or Android to scan the code and immediately open the browser page for you.Embed this QR code image on your business card, flyer, banner, poster or presentation to enable people to get to your fundraising page instantly.
Embed the donation widget on your website so that donors can give immediately. Ask friends to embed the widget on their webpages too! The widget colors, text summary, and suggested donation amounts are customizable. You can add recurring donations too!
The donate now button redirects to your fundraising page on GiveMN.org.
Use the button or your own graphic to link to your GiveMN page from your email signature. Please refer to your specific email client (MacMail, OutLook, Gmail, etc.) for instructions in modifying your email signature.
GiveMN allows donors to make their donation a recurring donation on a weekly, monthly or annual basis. Be sure to draw attention to this feature and let your donors know that is available.

Use your newsletter or individual emails to send a thank you note.
If you’ve ever responded to a friend’s Facebook post asking you to donate to their favorite cause, then you’ve taken part in peer-to-peer or social fundraising. It wasn’t the nonprofit asking you to donate. It wasn’t even a volunteer or staff member, it was someone you knew that cared about the cause. This is the power of peer-to-peer fundraising and nonprofits who actively equip individuals to do peer-to-peer fundraising can reap greater rewards.
Share ideas for social fundraising in your newsletter or social media. Promote and “cheerlead” for individuals who are fundraising for your nonprofit. (Fundraisers are listed on your main organization page)
A new study by Convio and CARE that shows, and I quote: “Dual channel donors (those who give both offline and online) are the most valuable to nonprofit organizations.” They have the highest annual donor value, giving an average of $123.29 annually.
This was the first inaugural Summer Walk for North Memorial Foundation’s Pay It Forward Fund. They used GiveMN’s team pages and raised more than $35,000 with only 75 walkers. Each walker raised the minimum of $250, but many raised hundreds or thousands, one dollar at a time.
Use a phone camera or webcam to get a quick video message out: brief, on-the-fly videos provide authenticity and compelling visuals via a short production cycle.
