METRO INSIGHT
The
data
for
this
report
comes
from
a
variety
of
publically
available
sources
such
as
the
Census
Bureau
and
Bureau
of
Labor
Sta3s3cs.
This
report
is
intended
to
give
a
brief
overview
of
the
general
demographics
and
economy
of
the
Aus3n-‐Round
Rock-‐
San
Marcos
Metropolitan
Area
as
defined
in
2012.
Most
of
the
data
is
updated
at
least
annually.
Some
of
the
employment
data
sources
do
update
on
a
monthly
basis,
but
to
avoid
seasonal
fluctua3ons,
the
data
used
here
is
the
most
current
annual
data.

The
Aus3n
Metro
consists
of
5
central
Texas
coun3es.
Travis
County
is
Home
to
Aus3n,
and
is
the
largest
of
the
five
accoun3ng
for
more
than
half
of
the
Metro’s
popula3on.
Williamson
County,
on
the
northern
edge
of
the
Metro,
is
home
to
the
rapidly
growing
suburbs
of
Georgetown
and
Round
Rock.

The
Aus3n
Metro
is
one
of
the
fastest
growing
metros
in
the
na3on,
growing
by
over
40
percent
between
2000
and
2012.
Metro
Aus3n’s
popula3on
in
1960
was
just
over
300,000.
By
comparison,
the
Aus3n
Metro
added
almost
600,000
new
residents
since
2000.
Only
Las
Vegas
and
Raleigh
have
grown
at
a
faster
rate.
