3. Building Code Conservation
Advisory Council
 Formed in 2010 with representatives from
AMO, BILD, BOMA, CEEA, EGD, LMCBO,
NAIMA, OAA, OHBA, SBC, UGL.
 Role is to provide strategic advice to the
Minister on energy and water conservation,
barriers to green technologies, promote on-
site generation of renewable energy, and
how to enhance industry capability to
implement conservation.

4. OBC 2006, Part 12
12.2.1.2. Energy Efficiency Design After December 31, 2011
(2) Except as provided in Sentences (3) and (5), the energy
efficiency of all buildings shall be designed to exceed by not
less than 25% the energy efficiency levels attained by
conforming to the Model National Energy Code for Buildings.
12.2.1.2. Energy Efficiency Design After December 31, 2011
(2) Except as provided in Sentences (3) and (5), the energy
efficiency of all buildings shall conform to Supplementary
Standard SB-10. (revised July 1, 2011)

6. Compliance Issues
 Compliance forms have been prepared by the ministry.

 Prescriptive path compliance/tradeoff software is now
available for the ASHRAE 90.1-2010/SB-10 Div.3,
using DOE COMcheck program.

 Performance Path Compliance software (Can-Quest)
will soon available for NECB – it is now being field
tested.

7. Next Edition of the Building Code (2017?)
 Current expectation: incremental gain in efficiency to be
12 to 13% - BCCAC has not yet prepared
recommendations.
 Possible adoption of ASHRAE 90.1-2013 or 2016, could
still require a hybrid.
 Discussions to update the NECB are underway, possibly
as soon as 2013.
