Seuss
3. Theodor Seuss Geisel,
more commonly known as
Dr Seuss, was born in
March 1904 Springfield
Massachusetts U.S.A.
Ted, as he was known,
developed a love for
rhymes. This love was
inspired by his mother,
because she sang him
lullabies. Childhood was
good for some parts, but in World War I, his family
lost a lot of finances. Theodor was often teased
and bullied because his mother and father were
immigrants from Germany.
4. At his time in Dartmouth College, he got caught
drinking during the prohibition and he had to make
up a pseudonym to write for a magazine. This was
Dr Seuss! Theodor went to Oxford University in
England; he was really bored and dropped out,
touring Europe with his wife instead.
5. He liked drawing
cartoons and during
World War II, he started
making cartoon
animations. His first
book was; And To
Think I Saw It On
Mulberry Street, which
he was inspired by his
home town to write. He
wrote Cat in the Hat
and that’s when he
became really famous.
6. After writing this book, he
then wrote over 60 more
children’s literature books,
Some have been made
into movies, the latest one
is The Lorax. Theodor
won many awards,
including 2 Academy
awards, 2 Emmy awards,
a Peabody award and a
Pulitzer Prize. After a long
happy life doing he loved,
he sadly died in
September 24 1991. He
was 87 years old.
