In a world of too many #hashtags, I’m here to talk about their proper use and why some hashtags actually work.
Official history of the hashtag.I first began using hashtags when Twitter began to show trending topics along the sidebar back around 09. And then on Tweetchats around the same time.
Raise your hand if you saw the recent skit of JT and Jimmy Fallon on hashtags and their overuse. It was funny…and very true.
Many people have become obsessed with hashtags and you’re starting to see them everywhere…including all over Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” video.
And it’s not just in music or the Internet. It’s all over television as well. For the last few years, people have been hashing with the favorite TV shows. One especially that gets lots of hashes – Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.In this year’s SuperBowl, the overwhelming majority of advertisers used hashtags in their ads.The most popular hashtags used were the ones that only used their brand name…not something different such as Go Daddy’s #thekiss.
