What is “Social Networking" and “Social Media”? First of all it is a mind-set… a belief that your voice counts Web sites that allow users to create and share content Words Images Videos Presentations…
The key sites You have probably heard of them, but how are you using them? Social Networks Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter Media Sharing YouTube, Flickr, SlideShare Social Bookmarking Delicious, Digg, Stumble Upon Free Blogging Tools WordPress, Blogger
You better be blogging No Geeks Needed - It's easy to set up and use You can get going for free If you don’t blog, you don’t exist
Speaking to a crowd, not yelling at a market This is NOT the floor of the New York Stock Exchange It’s Like Being At A Party
This is a GREAT set of tools to engage in conversations Listen as much as you speak Find out what people are talking about Flame thee not! (The Golden rule) You can’t control the conversation… don’t try
Start slowly, but start today! There is nothing you can break Take a few minutes to figure out what is unique about you… your “angle” Have a photo of you (NOT your logo) that is friendly and approachable Use it on all social media sites for consistency Hang out on the sites, see how they flow Pipe up when you have something to add Forward/Share/Retweet when you see something interesting Have fun!
