2. -10,000 Hours theory-
• According to the 10,000 hours theory
becoming a master at any skill takes at least
10,000 hours.
After 10,000 hours of practice is when you
will finally be considered a master at your
preferred skill. Whether it’s computer
programming or something completely
different like playing an instrument.
3. Magic Number
• Gladwell suggests that 10 years is the
approximate time it takes to get to 10,000
hours of practice. He says greatness requires
an enormous amount of time and 10,000
hours is the magic number for greatness.
– Many people have gotten their 10,000 hours
before hitting greatness. Such as Bill Gates, Bill
Joy, the Beatles and many more.
4. Bill Gates
• Bill Gates, also known as
the founder of Microsoft,
is one of many who did
get 10,000 hours before
his career took off. One
reason for this is because
he had unlimited access
to computer time at
Seattle’s famous Lakeside
school. He spent
countless hours studying.
6. Bill Joy
• Bill Joy, also known
as the founder of
Java and Son
Microsystems. Is
also introduced in
this chapter. He got
10,000 hours of
practice in computer
programming, due to
his unlimited
computer access at
the University of
Michigan.
7.
8. The Beatles
• The Beatles got 10,000
hours of practice to.
They played for 8
hours a day, 7 days a
week in Hamburg
Germany. By the time
they were on their
climb to greatness,
which happened to be
in England, they
already had played for
10,000 hours.
9. • The 10,000 hours theory makes you realize
that you aren’t just born with talent. The
saying practice makes perfect seems to be
exactly what Malcolm was thinking.
– Even though 10,000 hours seems to be quite a
bit if your skill is something you truly enjoy, you
won’t even realize how long you’ve been
practicing for. You could get to 10,000 hours
before 10 years or it could take you even longer
than 10 years but if your skill is worth it and you
really want to be a master you’ll start as soon as
you can.
