- Thank you for this opportunity to present to you today. I’ve been asked to share with you about the Community Energy Association – who we are and our role in furthering integrated action on energy sustainability at the community level. We are BC-based inter-agency collaboration since 1994, incorporated in 2003 as a charitable non-profit. We’ve been promoting community energy planning in BC for over 15 years. First a caution around our name: In BC, we often use our acronym, CEA, but I realize this can be confusing, especially in national gatherings, in light of the Canadian Electricity Assn – one of the Quest sponsors! My apologies in advance for the CEA acronym on some of my slides.
- CEA is a collaboration of many agencies … UBCM, PIBC, energy and transit providers, and recently individual local governments. We now are inviting local governments to join, to help provide leadership across the province. Opinions in this presentation are that of the presenter only and doe not necessarily reflect each member.
- Challenges at the community level – 100 year decisions, planning for the ‘old future’ or the ‘new future’ All the changes are within the lifespan of the assets that we’re making decisions on today
- A boom in interest in DH systems around BC 3 existing community systems Revelstoke and North Vancouver the first community owned systems in BC At least 10 more under serious consideration
