   The Brain consists of
    three major
    components:

    ◦ The Cerebrum
    ◦ The Cerebellum
    ◦ The Brain Stem

   The Cerebrum is the
    largest portion of the
    brain.
   It consists of two
    hemispheres
    ◦ The left hemisphere & the
      right hemisphere
      These hemispheres have
       an outer layer called the
       cerebral cortex.

   The left hemisphere of
    the brain deals with:
    ◦ Reasoning & Language
    ◦ Math & Science
   The right hemisphere
    deals with:
    ◦ Imagination & Insight
    ◦ Art & Music

   Each hemisphere is
    divided into 4 sections
    ◦   Frontal lobes
    ◦   Parietal lobes
    ◦   Temporal lobes
    ◦   Occipital lobes
   The temporal lobe
    deals with sounds
    ◦ Hearing, memory, &
      learning

    degrade and distort
    with time...

    ... music triggers the
    reward centers in our
    brain thus helping us
    remember."

    responses and stimulates

    responsible for long term

    ◦   Create a desired atmosphere
    ◦   Build a sense of anticipation
    ◦   Energize learning activities
    ◦   Change brain wave states
    ◦   Focus concentration
    ◦   Increase attention
    ◦   Improve memory
    ◦   Enhance imagination
    ◦   Add an element of fun

   Listening to song lyrics improves
    comprehension skills

    ◦   listening skills
    ◦   good pronunciation
    ◦   increases vocabulary and speech patterns
    ◦   memory retaining

   Research:
    ◦ Hong Kong found children who were given music
      training have better verbal memories
    ◦ Only "fast" and "appealing" music drew the
      attention of kids.
    ◦ Loud music that was not appealing did not make a
      difference in the children's likes and dislikes
