1. THE COTOCON GROUP
Project Know as: Old Roosevelt Field Superfund Site
Remedial Action Facility, Garden City, NY
Old Roosevelt Field Groundwater Treatment Facility, Garden City, NY
This Superfund site was awarded LEED certification by the Green
Building Certification Institute in January 2013. Designed by BNB
Design, built by Arrowhead Contracting and with The Cotocon Group as
LEED consultants, this facility was constructed to process ground water
contaminated when the site was used as an airfield in the 1930’s. Field
activities associated with this Ground Water Treatment Facility included
removal of existing asphalt parking areas, construction of access roads and
security fencing, construction of three wellhead vaults, installation of
2,200LF of influent and effluent yard piping, erection of a 2,200 SF pre-
engineered metal building, installation and hookup of process equipment,
instrumentation and controls, and field start-up. One of the many
“GREEN” features and major accomplishments of this project is the innovative design of a geothermal heating/cooling
alternative using some of this treated ground water to manage the plant’s air-conditioning and flush toilet thereby
conserving potable water and reducing domestic water use at the facility by 100%. This facility Complies with EPA
Region 2’s Green Remediation Practices.
