3. Shame, Shame, Shame
Shame – A painful sensation excited by a consciousness of guilt, or of
having done something which injures reputation; or by of that which
nature nature or modesty prompts us to conceal. Shame is particularly
excited by the disclosure of actions which, in the view of men, are mean
and degrading. Hence it it is often or always manifested by a downcast
look or by blushes, called confusion of face. (Webster’s 1828)
4. Men’s Role of Leadership
1Ti 2:7-8 NKJV for which I was appointed a preacher and an
apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying—a teacher of
the Gentiles in faith and truth. (8) I desire therefore that the men pray
everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
Men – (anēr) with reference to sex, a male
The role of leadership in the church given to men has
nothing to do with culture or societal standards, but
with the role established with Adam and Eve from the
beginning, 1 Timothy 2:11-14.
5. Holy Hands?
1Ti 2:7-8 NKJV for which I was appointed a preacher and an
apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying—a teacher of
the Gentiles in faith and truth. (8) I desire therefore that the men pray
everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
1. Only men to pray in every place!
2. Without wrath and doubting, (James 1:5-8; 1 Thess. 5:17;
1 John 5:14).
3. Hands here is a figure of speech. Hands were the
instrument in which work was performed. Men who work
righteous or holy deeds should lead us in public prayer.
4. Posture of prayer not mandated; some examples of posture
include: Standing (1 Sam. 1:26); Kneeling (1 Kings 8:54);
Prostrate (1 Kings 18:42, Mk. 14:35); Hands spread out (1
Kings 8:22, Is. 1:15); Hands lifted up (Job 11:13-14, Ps.
63:14).
6. Salvation of Women
1Ti 2:9-10 NKJV in like manner also, that the women adorn
themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not
with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, (10) but, which
is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.
Modest – (kosmios) well arranged, seemly, modest (Thayer)
1Pe 3:3-5 NKJV Do not let your adornment be merely outward—
arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— (4)
rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible
beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the
sight of God. (5) For in this manner, in former times, the holy
women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being
submissive to their own husbands,

Moderation – (sōphrosunē) KJV sobriety; soundness of mind, self-
control, sobriety.
Drinking leads to the temporary loss of ones mind!

1Ti 2:11-12 NKJV Let a woman learn in silence with all submission.
(12) And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over
a man, but to be in silence.
1Ti 2:11-12 ESV Let a woman learn quietly with all
submissiveness. (12) I do not permit a woman to teach or to
exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.
