2. Golden
Opportunities
Mat 7:12 ESV "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do
also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Gal 6:9-10 ESV And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due
season we will reap, if we do not give up. (10) So then, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are
of the household of faith.
3. Why I Love the church of Christ, Part
2Heb 10:19-25 ESV Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to
enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, (20) by the new and living
way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,
(21) and since we have a great priest over the house of God, (22) let us
draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts
sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure
water. (23) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without
wavering, for he who promised is faithful. (24) And let us consider how
to stir up one another to love and good works, (25) not neglecting to
meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and
all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Confidence (parrhēsia) lit. “all” and “to pour forth – utter;
ree and fearless confidence, cheerful courage, boldness, assurance
(Thayer)
4. An Anchor of
Confidence
Heb 6:17-20 ESV So when God desired to show more convincingly to
the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he
guaranteed it with an oath, (18) so that by two unchangeable things, in
which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might
have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. (19)
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters
into the inner place behind the curtain, (20) where Jesus has gone as a
forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the
order of Melchizedek.
5. Why I Love the church of Christ, Part
2Heb 10:22 ESV let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of
faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our
bodies washed with pure water.
Act 22:16 ESV And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and
wash away your sins, calling on his name.'
1Pe 3:20-21 ESV because they formerly did not obey, when God's
patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in
which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.
(21) Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a
removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good
conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Eph 3:12 ESV in whom we have boldness and access with confidence
through our faith in him.
6. Why I Love the church of Christ, Part
2Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
for he who promised is faithful.
Heb 4:14-16 ESV Since then we have a great high priest who has passed
through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our
confession. (15) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been
tempted as we are, yet without sin. (16) Let us then with confidence
draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.
1Pe 3:15-16 ESV but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy,
always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a
reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
(16) having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those
who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
7. Why I Love the church of Christ, Part
2Heb 10:24-25 ESV And let us consider how to stir up one another to love
and good works, (25) not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of
some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day
drawing near.
Encouraging – (parakaleō) lit. to draw near
Rom 14:19 ESV So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for
mutual upbuilding.
8. Why I Love the church of Christ, Part
2Eph 4:11-16 ESV And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the
evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, (12) to equip the saints for the
work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, (13) until we all
attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to
mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
(14) so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the
waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning,
by craftiness in deceitful schemes. (15) Rather, speaking the truth in
love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into
Christ, (16) from whom the whole body, joined and held together by
every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working
properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
