How Effective is Mobile Marketing?
 

Mobile marketing may either refer to marketing with the use of a 
mobile device or marketing in a shifting fashion. 

 Either way, mobile marketing is an effective means of promoting and 
advertising products to consumers thereby increasing the profit of any 
business. 

  Mobile marketing is also popular as SMS advertising. 

It is effective in the sense that it allows organizations to communicate 
directly with their audience.  

It is interactive promotion which is very relevant in today’s advertising. 

 Mobile marketing is also popularly known as wireless marketing.  

Although wireless is not necessarily mobile since consumers can access 
the same information through a desktop computer at home or in the 
office. 

The rise of mobile marketing began in the early 2000s when Short 
Message Service or SMS became increasingly popular.  
In Europe and in Asia, businesses collected numbers to send off 
promotion for their products and services. 

 Eventually, SMS became a legitimate promotional device in other parts 
of the world.  

Because of this, guidelines were established to protect both the 
marketers and the consumers. 

 As technology developed, new channels for mobile marketing 
emerged. 

 Among these channels include: 

     Multimedia Message Service – With MMS, advertisers can send 
      text, videos, and slideshows of the product’s images. Almost all 
      phones with color screen can send and receive MMS. 

       

     In‐game mobile marketing – The trend of mobile gaming is 
      moving towards sophistication. These games are very casual in 
      promoting products that some are being promoted within the 
      game. This kind of promotion is also known as Ad‐funded mobile 
      game or mobile advergaming. 

       

     Mobile Web Marketing – Here, products are being promoted on 
      web pages that are accessed through mobile devices. Major 
      mobile content providers such as Google and Yahoo have been 
      selling advertising “spaces” online. There are also other 
      advertising networks that focus on mobile properties. 

       
   Marketing via Bluetooth and infrared – Bluetooth became popular 
      only in 2003. Infrared, on the other hand, is the oldest form of 
      mobile marketing. Unlike Bluetooth, Infrared is very restricted and 
      limited. Another advantage of Bluetooth is that it has higher 
      transfer speeds, it is for free, and it is permission based. 

It has become a popular marketing tool for many reasons. 

 main advantage of SMS marketing basically is that it directly addresses 
the audience.  

SMS advertising helps marketers deliver their marketing campaign fast.  

Through mass sms, you can reach your target market all at once in an 
instant regardless of where they are in the world. 

 Second, compared to other marketing strategies, it is generally 
cheaper. 

 Depending on the channel, it only costs more than 75% less of the cost 
you would spend in other marketing methods. 

 In fact today, your can choose from a wide range of mobile marketing 
platforms and online sms services at discounted rates to further save 
money. 

People have also grown accustomed to traditional advertising that 
these methods are not as effective as they were ten years ago.
