1. 8.14:
Home College procedures
• In the event of absence parent / carers are to contact the College by telephone on the
morning of absence and complete the form in the homework planner to authorise the
absence. Parents/carers will be contacted by Truancy Call if their daughter is not in the
academy.
• Appointment slips in the planner must be completed and appointment cards must be
shown to the form tutor.
• If there is a change of address the college must be informed immediately as
parents/carers may need to be contacted in the case of illness or an emergency.
• Parents/carers are to sign the Homework planner each week. If there are any concerns
a note should be written in the planner). Alternatively parents/carers can contact the
college and speak to the Year Director of Learning.
• Parents/carers must ensure that students have an appropriate bag and all the necessary
equipment as specified in the planner.
• Parents/carers must ensure that students attend college in correct uniform and have the
full PE kit on the day she has a PE lesson.
• Parents/carers must ensure that students eligible for free school meals have stuck their
ticket into the front of the planner in the space provided.
• The student’s library ticket must also be stuck in the front of the planner.
• Parents/carers should be aware of the academy policies on bullying, racism etc as
outlined in the planner. All college policies are available upon request.
• Information regarding Behaviour for Learning, rewards and sanctions are also listed in
the planner. Parents/carers must note the detentions.
• Parent/carers who wish to apply for Exceptional leave must complete the application
form and return it to their daughter’s Year Director of Learning. Further information can
be found in the planner. Leave will not be granted for family holidays. (see letter below)

2. Extended Leave Contract

Family Holidays and Extended Trips Overseas During Term Time
Following Government Guidelines (Regulation 9 of the Education, Pupil Registration Regulation
1995) it is stated that only in very exceptional circumstances can leave be granted for up to
ten working days in any one academic year.
The Principal will decide if leave is to be granted.
There is no right to expect to be granted leave and leave cannot be granted for holidays or
family trips abroad.
Every parent / carer is requested to sign a contract agreeing to the following criteria:
I, the parent/carer of ………………………………… agree to the following:
1. I will not take my daughter out of the academy during term time.
2. I will only book the family annual holiday/trip during official academy holiday times.
3. If I do have to take my daughter out of the academy it will be with the permission of the
Principal of the Academy, and she will return by the agreed date.
4. I understand that failure to return from exceptional leave of absence, even if granted by
the Principal of the Academy may, after 10 days, cause the Academy to remove the
student named above from the Academy roll.

3. 8.14.1: Communicating with Parents / Carers
Parent /carer involvement in college is valued and encouraged as it benefits the student, the
academy and the parents / carers themselves.
Parent Consultation Evenings are arranged once a year where a student’s achievement,
progress and behaviour can be discussed. In addition parents/carers will receive a report once
a term giving details of a student’s attainment and effort.
Newsletters are sent home once every half term, giving details of college dates, activities, and
special events.
Concerns, complaints and compliments: in the first instance, parents / carers should contact
their daughter’s form tutor by writing a note in their daughter’s Homework planner or by
contacting the Year Director of Learning.
Parents / carers may make an appointment to see the Principal by phoning her PA to make an
appointment.
If necessary there is a Complaints procedure which will be explained to any parent / carer who
contacts the academy.

4. 8.14.2: Home – College Agreement
A strong partnership between the academy and home is an essential for our students to
succeed. Effective communication enables students to receive continuity of education, care,
support and management within the home and academy settings.
We aim to provide a high quality learning environment and we are committed to maximising the
abilities of each student.
Our aim is to enable all students to become responsible, fulfilled adults, who have the skills and
confidence to be able to shape the future.
We want our link with parents / carers to be strong and to be based on an open dialogue which
will enable our students to succeed.
Together we aim to prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of
adult life, and we will promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of
students at our college and of the communities around us.
Our students will acquire knowledge and skills; they will learn how to learn; they will
communicate effectively by the written and spoken word; they will learn to work with other as a
member and as a leader of a team; they will demonstrate self confidence; self motivation; they
will learn tolerance and respect for others; they will learn to adapt and embrace challenges.
The College Agreement
We will:
• Provide a centre for excellence in which all learners are of equal value and have
unlimited potential for development.
• Support our students so that they become confident and aware adults, in control of their
own lives, who actively participate in society.
• Provide parents/carer with full information about the curriculum
• Report to parents/carer three times a year on progress and achievements.
• Set, mark and monitor homework and provide facilities for your daughter to do homework
in college.
• Invite parents/carer to attend meetings, formally and informally, to discuss your
daughter’s progress and achievements with her teachers.
• Identify and respond to any special needs/talents.

5. Parents/Carers Agreement
We / I will: Help the academy to support the learning of my daughter by:
• ensuring that she attends the academy regularly, on time, properly equipped and ready
to learn
• ensuring that she always wear the academy uniform as stated in the homework planner
• checking her books, ensuring completion of her homework and signing her planner every
week
• attending parents’ evening
• supporting the academy Behaviour Policy
• not arranging any holidays in term time
• informing the college of reasons for absences with a letter upon my daughter’s return to
college
The Student Agreement
I will:
• be on time for college and all lessons and bring the necessary books and equipment
• wear the college uniform, as stated in the planner
• ensure that I always try to produce my best work and complete all homework
• ensure that I shows respect at all times by being polite and helpful to all adults and fellow
students
• keep the college free from litter and graffiti
• abide by the college Behaviour Policy
