3. walking in the wilderness
cold and alone
my body warming up
as I search for my kill
tiptoeing carefully
arching down
I see what I been looking for
4.
5. no worries
no second thoughts
I jump onto my prey
savagely ripping it apart
no goodbye
no last words
blood in my mouth
I walk away realizing
I'm not hungry anymore

7. Visualizing Anger
• How does the author of this
poem visualize anger?
• How do you visualize anger?
• What is anger?
• What causes us to lash out at others?
8. Lashing Out
• We are creatures of instinct
• We have a selfish nature
• We protect what we have a “right” to
• We have an innate hunger inside
• That hunger is a persistent pain
• That hunger cannot be filled by us
9. Satisfy the Hunger
• Jesus is...
• The Bread of Life
• John 6:35
I am the bread of life. He who comes
to me will never go hungry, and he who
believes in me will never be thirsty.
10. Satisfy the Hungry
• Jesus is...
• Living Water
• John 4:13-14
Everyone who drinks this water will be
thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water
I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the
water I give him will become in him a
spring of water welling up to eternal life.
11. Satisfy the Hunger
• Jesus is...
• Poured Wine
• John 4:13-14
This is my blood of the covenant,
which is poured out for many.
I tell you the truth, I will not drink again
of the fruit of the vine until that day when
I drink it anew in the kingdom of God.
13. In Anger Wrong?
• Anger is an feeling
• We get angry sometimes
• We are made in God’s image
• God gets angry too
• What do we do with that feeling
is what makes the difference
14. God’s Anger
Exodus 32:9-10
And the LORD said to Moses,
“I have seen this people, and behold,
they are an obstinate people.
Now then let Me alone,
that My anger may burn against them,
and that I may destroy them;
and I will make of you a great nation”
15. God’s Anger
Exodus 15:7
In the greatness of your majesty
you threw down those who opposed you.
You unleashed your burning anger;
it consumed them like stubble.
Job 4:9
At the breath of God they are destroyed;
at the blast of his anger they perish.
Job 9:5
He moves mountains without their knowing it
and overturns them in his anger
16. Anger From Others
2 Samuel 12:1-3
There were two men in a certain town, one rich
and the other poor. The rich man had a very large
number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had
nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought.
He raised it, and it grew up with him and his
children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and
even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.
17. Anger From Others
2 Samuel 12:4-5
Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich
man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or
cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had
come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that
belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the
one who had come to him.
David burned with anger against the man and said
to Nathan, “As surely as the LORD lives, the man
who did this deserves to die! He must pay for that
lamb four times over, because he did such a thing
and had no pity.”
19. Anger Control: Patience
• Proverbs 14:29
A patient man has great understanding,
but a quick-tempered man displays folly.
• Proverbs 15:18
A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension,
but a patient man calms a quarrel.
• Proverbs 16:32
Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who
controls his temper than one who takes a city.
• James 1:19
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak
20. Control Anger: Forgive
• Ephesians 4:26-27
In your anger do not sin.
Do not let the sun go down while you are still
angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
• Ephesians 4:31-32
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling
and slander, along with every form
of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one
another, forgiving each other, just as
in Christ, God forgave you.
21. Control Anger: Wisdom
• Proverbs 19:11
A man's wisdom gives him patience;
it is to his glory to overlook an offense.
• Colossians 3:2,7-8
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly
things. You used to walk in these ways, in the life
you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves
of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice,
slander, and filthy language from your lips.
22. Control Anger: Peace
• Proverbs 15:1
A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
• Romans 14:19
Let us make every effort to do
what leads to peace and mutual edification.
• Hebrews 12:14-15
Make every effort to live in peace with all men and
to be holy; without holiness no one will see the
Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God
and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble
and defile many.
