Bus Rapid Transit, or BRT, is an urban mass
transportation service using buses (instead of rail
cars) running on separate rights-of-way
BRT is characterised by
– Large, high-capacity, high-frequency bus services
– Segregated bus lanes or ‘busways’
– Rail-style bus stations with sheltered waiting areas
– Multi-door buses and pre-board ticketing at bus stations to
allow rapid boarding and alighting

Implementation of BRT in HCMC should involve
– Engineering and construction of infrastructure
– Procurement of a suitable bus fleet
– Installation of traffic signal systems to promote bus
priority and minimise overall delay
– Upgrading of all public transport to smart card ticketing
– Reorganisation of institutional structures to better manage
public transport and encourage private sector participation
