Let us pray to the Lord:
Lord, have mercy.
1. Eternal Father, strong to save
through our victorious Lord Jesus
Christ: By Your Word and Spirit
grant us grace and peace in Christ,
that whatever troubles, tribulations
and temptations may afflict us in
this world of sin and sorrow, we
may never forget You or forsake
You but, strengthened by Your grace
and compassionate aid, help us to
remain patient and faithful until the
day of resurrection...
2. Merciful Father, in Your great
love, You have given us the gift of
neighbors and community.
Remember in compassion the cities
of our land, many of which battle
crime and corruption, and struggle
to maintain the services needed to
protect and serve their residents.
Graciously give them good and
faithful government officials, who
hold and administer their offices not
to be served, but to serve. Guide
them, we implore You, that they
may faithfully serve and administer
their offices, for the public good and
the honor of Your name...
3. Kind Father, our Lord Jesus, in
the days of His ministry among us,
had no place to lay His head and
showed His kindness to those who
cried to Him in their distress: Hear
the cries of those who suffer and are
in need of relief, especially those
who are destitute or homeless and
who struggle to provide daily bread
for themselves and their families.
Grant that they may receive the help
and assistance they sorely need.
Move us to help and assist our
neighbors in want, that their daily
needs be met, their hope be renewed
and their confidence in Your never-
failing kindness be strengthened...

4. Good and gracious God, in Your
fatherly kindness and compassion,
You generously and daily provide
for all our physical needs, pouring
forth the blessings of creation upon
the just and the unjust, without any
merit or worthiness in us. In the
new growing season that You now
have given us, cause the
wholesome fruits of the earth to
spring forth in abundance. Bless
their growth with abundant
sunshine and seasonal rains. Protect
them from disease and pestilence,
hail and drought, and every kind of
danger, that with thankful hearts we
may enjoy them to the health of our
bodies and be strengthened for Your
service...
--OPEN PRAYER--
5. Loving Father, Your Son is the
Great Physician of our souls. As a
sign of Your kingdom breaking into
this world, He healed many who
were sick, injured, maimed and
distressed. Extend your healing still
over those among us who are sick
or who suffer from any other
infirmity or adversity, that they may
have their afflictions lifted from
them. Until you give them
deliverance and health, now or in
the life to come, support them with
the strength by which Your Son
bore the cross for us, that they be
upheld in faith toward You and trust
in Your never-failing love and
grace...
6. Most merciful Father, Your Son,
our Lord Jesus, by His cross and
Passion has made us children of
God, reconciled us to You, and
taught us to pray to You as dear
children ask their dear fathers.
Grant us that for which we pray, for
we ask it in His name, trusting in
Your mercy, through the same Jesus
Christ, our Lord, who lives and
reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

1. Our Father, Who from Heaven Above
Our Father, who from heav’n above
Bids all of us to live in love
As members of one family
And pray to You in unity,
Teach us no thoughtless words to say
But from our inmost hearts to pray.
2. Your name be hallowed. Help us, Lord,
In purity to keep Your Word,
That to the glory of Your name
We walk before You free from blame.
Let no false teaching us pervert;
All poor deluded souls convert.
3. Your kingdom come. Guard Your domain
And Your eternal righteous reign.
That to the glory of Your name
We walk before You free from blame.
Break Satan’s pow’r defeat his rage;
Preserve Your Church from age to age.
4. Your gracious will on earth be done
As it is done before Your throne,
That patiently we may obey
Throughout our lives all that You say.
Curb flesh and blood and ev’ry ill
That sets itself against Your will.
5. Give us this day our daily bread,
And let us all be clothed and fed.
Save us from hardship, war, and strife;
In plague and famine, spare our life.
That we in honest peace may live,
To care and greed no entrance give.
6. Forgive our sins, Lord, we implore,
That they may trouble us no more;
We, too, will gladly those forgive
Who hurt us by the way they live.
Help us in our community
To serve each other willingly.
7. Lead not into temptation, Lord,
Where our grim foe and all his horde
Would vex our souls on ev’ry hand.
Help us resist, help us to stand
Firm in the faith, a mighty host,
Through comfort of the Holy Ghost.
8. From evil, Lord, deliver us;
The times and days are perilous.
Redeem us from eternal death,
And, when we yield our dying breath,
Console us, grant us calm release,
And take our souls to You in peace.
9. Amen, that is so shall it be.
Make strong our faith in You, that we
May doubt not but with trust believe
That what we ask we shall receive.
Thus in Your name and at Your Word
We say, ―Amen, O hear us, Lord!‖

Numbers 21:4-9
The Bronze Serpent
4 From Mount Hor they set out by the
way to the Red Sea, to go around the
land of Edom. And the people became
impatient on the way. 5 And the people
spoke against God and against Moses,
"Why have you brought us up out of
Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there
is no food and no water, and we loathe
this worthless food.‖ 6 Then the LORD
sent fiery serpents among the people,
and they bit the people, so that many
people of Israel died. 7 And the people
came to Moses and said, ―We have
sinned, for we have spoken against the
LORD and against you. Pray to the
LORD, that he take away the serpents
from us.‖ So Moses prayed for the
people. 8 And the LORD said to Moses,
―Make a fiery serpent and set it on a
pole, and everyone who is bitten, when
he sees it, shall live.‖ 9 So Moses made
a bronze serpent and set it on a pole.
And if a serpent bit anyone, he would
look at the bronze serpent and live.
1 Timothy 2:1-6
Pray for All People
2 First of all, then, I urge that
supplications, prayers, intercessions,
and thanksgivings be made for all
people, 2 for kings and all who are in
high positions, that we may lead a
peaceful and quiet life, godly and
dignified in every way. 3 This is good,
and it is pleasing in the sight of God our
Savior, 4 who desires all people to be
saved and to come to the knowledge of
the truth. 5 For there is one God, and
there is one mediator between God and
men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave
himself as a ransom for all, which is the
testimony given at the proper time.
James 1:22-27
22 But be doers of the word, and not
hearers only, deceiving yourselves.23
For if anyone is a hearer of the word
and not a doer, he is like a man who
looks intently at his natural face in a
mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and
goes away and at once forgets what he
was like. 25 But the one who looks into
the perfect law, the law of liberty, and
perseveres, being no hearer who forgets
but a doer who acts, he will be blessed
in his doing.
26 If anyone thinks he is religious and
does not bridle his tongue but deceives
his heart, this person's religion is
worthless. 27 Religion that is pure and
undefiled before God, the Father, is
this: to visit orphans and widows in
their affliction, and to keep oneself
unstained from the world.
John 16:23-33
23 In that day you will ask nothing of
me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever
you ask of the Father in my name, he
will give it to you. 24 Until now you
have asked nothing in my name. Ask,
and you will receive, that your joy may
be full.
I Have Overcome the World
25 ―I have said these things to you in
figures of speech. The hour is coming
when I will no longer speak to you in
figures of speech but will tell you
plainly about the Father. 26 In that day
you will ask in my name, and I do not
say to you that I will ask the Father on
your behalf; 27 for the Father himself
loves you, because you have loved me
and have believed that I came from
God. 28 I came from the Father and
have come into the world, and now I
am leaving the world and going to the
Father.‖
29 His disciples said, ―Ah, now you are
speaking plainly and not using
figurative speech! 30 Now we know
that you know all things and do not
need anyone to question you; this is
why we believe that you came from
God.‖31 Jesus answered them, ―Do
you now believe? 32 Behold, the hour
is coming, indeed it has come, when
you will be scattered, each to his own
home, and will leave me alone. Yet I
am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 I have said these things to you, that
in me you may have peace. In the
world you will have tribulation. But
take heart; I have overcome the world.‖
Psalm 107:1-9
Book Five
Let the Redeemed of the LORD Say
So
107 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for
he is good,
for his steadfast love endures
forever!
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say
so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble
3 and gathered in from the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.
4 Some wandered in desert wastes,
finding no way to a city to dwell in;
5 hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted within them.
6 Then they cried to the LORD in their
trouble,
and he delivered them from their
distress.
7 He led them by a straight way
till they reached a city to dwell in.
8 Let them thank the LORD for his
steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the
children of man!
9 For he satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul he fills with
good things.

The Father Answers Our Prayers Because of Jesus
―Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to
you‖ (John 16:23). To pray in Jesus’ name is to pray as one who has been baptized. For it
is in the water that He put His name upon you, claiming you as His own, making you a son
of God with access to the Father. By His incarnation and crucifixion, our Lord Jesus broke
through the barrier of sin which separated us from God, opening a portal to the Father. To
pray in Jesus’ name is to pray with faith in Him as the one Mediator between God and
men, who gave Himself a ransom for all (1 Tim. 2:1–6). Like Moses in the wilderness,
Jesus is our go-between and intercessor before the throne of heaven. He was lifted up for
us on the cross that we might be saved and restored to fellowship with the Father (Num.
21:4–9). Looking into this perfect teaching of liberty (James 1:22–27) we pray with
boldness and confidence as dear children of God.
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed
be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in
heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Jesus Is Ascended, but Not
Absent
2 Kings 2:5-15
5 The sons of the prophets who
were at Jericho drew near to
Elisha and said to him, ―Do you
know that today the LORD will
take away your master from over
you?‖ And he answered, ―Yes, I
know it; keep quiet.‖
6 Then Elijah said to him, ―Please
stay here, for the LORD has sent
me to the Jordan.‖ But he said,
―As the LORD LIVES, and as you
yourself live, I will not leave
you.‖ So the two of them went
on. 7 Fifty men of the sons of the
prophets also went and stood at
some distance from them, as they
both were standing by the
Jordan. 8 Then Elijah took his
cloak and rolled it up and struck
the water, and the water was
parted to the one side and to the
other, till the two of them could
go over on dry ground.
9 When they had crossed, Elijah
said to Elisha, ―Ask what I shall
do for you, before I am taken
from you.‖ And Elisha said,
―Please let there be a double
portion of your spirit on
me.‖ 10 And he said, ―You have
asked a hard thing; yet, if you see
me as I am being taken from you,
it shall be so for you, but if you
do not see me, it shall not be
so.‖ 11 And as they still went on
and talked, behold, chariots of
fire and horses of fire separated
the two of them. And Elijah went
up by a whirlwind into
heaven.12 And Elisha saw it and
he cried, ―My father, my
father!The chariots of Israel and
its horsemen!‖ And he saw him
no more.
Then he took hold of his own
clothes and tore them in two
pieces. 13 And he took up the
cloak of Elijah that had fallen
from him and went back and
stood on the bank of the
Jordan. 14 Then he took the cloak
of Elijah that had fallen from him
and struck the water, saying,
―Where is the LORD, the God of
Elijah?‖ And when he had struck
the water, the water was parted to
the one side and to the other, and
Elisha went over.
Elisha Succeeds Elijah
15 Now when the sons of the
prophets who were at Jericho saw
him opposite them, they said,
―The spirit of Elijah rests on
Elisha.‖ And they came to meet
him and bowed to the ground
before him.
Acts 1:1-11
The Promise of the Holy
Spirit
1 In the first book,
O Theophilus, I have dealt with
all that Jesus began to do and
teach, 2 until the day when he
was taken up, after he had
given commands through the
Holy Spirit to the apostles
whom he had chosen. 3 He
presented himself alive to them
after his suffering by many
proofs, appearing to them
during forty days and speaking
about the kingdom of God.
4 And while staying with
them he ordered them not to
depart from Jerusalem, but to
wait for the promise of the
Father, which, he said, ―you
heard from me; 5 for John
baptized with water, but you
will be baptized with the Holy
Spirit not many days from
now.‖
The Ascension
6 So when they had come
together, they asked him,
―Lord, will you at this
time restore the kingdom to
Israel?‖ 7 He said to them, ―It is
not for you to know times or
seasons that the Father has
fixed by his own
authority. 8 But you will
receive power when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you,
and you will be my witnesses
in Jerusalem and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the end of
the earth.‖ 9 And when he had
said these things, as they were
looking on, he was lifted up,
and a cloud took him out of
their sight. 10 And while they
were gazing into heaven as he
went, behold, two men stood
by them in white robes, 11 and
said, ―Men of Galilee, why do
you stand looking into heaven?
This Jesus, who was taken up
from you into
heaven, will come in the same
way as you saw him go into
heaven.‖
Mark 16:14-20
The Great Commission
14 Afterward he appeared to the
eleven themselves as they were
reclining at table, and he rebuked
them for their unbelief
and hardness of heart,
because they had not believed
those who saw him after he had
risen.15 And he said to them, ―Go
into all the world and proclaim
the gospel to the whole
creation. 16 Whoever believes and
is baptized will be saved,
but whoever does not believe will
be condemned. 17 And these signs
will accompany those who
believe: in my name they will
cast out demons; they will speak
in new tongues; 18 they will pick
up serpents with their hands; and
if they drink any deadly poison, it
will not hurt them; they will lay
their hands on the sick, and they
will recover.‖
19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he
had spoken to them, was taken up
into heaven and sat down at the
right hand of God. 20 And they
went out and preached
everywhere, while the Lord
worked with them and
confirmed the message by
accompanying signs.]]
Luke 24:44-53
44 Then he said to them, ―These
are my words that I spoke to you
while I was still with you, that
everything written about me in
the Law of Moses and the
Prophets and the Psalms must be
fulfilled.‖ 45 Then he opened their
minds to understand the
Scriptures, 46 and said to
them, ―Thus it is written, that the
Christ should suffer and on the
third day rise from the
dead, 47 and that repentance
and forgiveness of sins should be
proclaimed in his name to all
nations, beginning from
Jerusalem.48 You are witnesses of
these things. 49 And behold, I am
sending the promise of my Father
upon you. But stay in the city
until you are clothed
with power from on high.‖
The Ascension
50 Then he led them out as far
as Bethany, and lifting up his
hands he blessed them. 51 While
he blessed them, he parted from
them and was carried up into
heaven. 52 And they worshiped
him and returned to
Jerusalem with great
joy, 53 and were continually in the
temple blessing God.

A Psalm of David.
110 The LORD says to my Lord:
―Sit at my right hand,

I Will Put My Spirit Within You
22 ―Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus
says the Lord GOD: It is not for your sake, O
house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for
the sake of my holy name, which you have
profaned among the nations to which you
came.23 And I will vindicate the holiness of
my great name, which has been profaned
among the nations, and which you have
profaned among them. And the nations will
know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord
GOD, when through you I vindicate my
holiness before their eyes.24 I will take you
from the nations and gather you from all the
countries and bring you into your own land. 25
I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you
shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and
from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 And I
will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I
will put within you. And I will remove the
heart of stone from your flesh and give you a
heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit
within you, and cause you to walk in my
statutes and be careful to obey my rules. 28
You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your
fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will
be your God.
1 Peter 4:7-14
7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be
self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake
of your prayers.8 Above all, keep loving one
another earnestly, since love covers a multitude
without grumbling. 10 As each has received a
gift, use it to serve one another, as good
stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever
speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God;
whoever serves, as one who serves by the
strength that God supplies—in order that in
everything God may be glorified through Jesus
Christ. To him belong glory and dominion
forever and ever. Amen.
Suffering as a Christian
12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery
trial when it comes upon you to test you, as
though something strange were happening to
you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's
sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be
glad when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are
insulted for the name of Christ, you are
blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God
rests upon you.
John 15:26-16:4
26 ―But when the Helper comes, whom I will
send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth,
who proceeds from the Father, he will bear
witness about me. 27 And you also will bear
witness, because you have been with mefrom
the beginning.
16 ―I have said all these things to you to keep
you from falling away. 2 They will put you out
of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming
when whoever kills you will think he is
offering service to God. 3 And they will do
these things because they have not known the
Father, nor me. 4 But I have said these things to
you, that whentheir hour comes you may
remember that I told them to you.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
beginning, because I was with you.
Psalm 51:1-12
Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when
Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had
gone in to Bathsheba.
51 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you may be justified in your words
and blameless in your judgment.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward
being,
and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Sixth S. of Easter (Rogate): The Father Answers Our Prayers Because of Jesus Num. 21:4-9; 1 Tim. 2:1-6; James 1:22-27; John 16:23-33; Psalm 107:1-9 — Memorization Verses: Num. 21:7 Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us.‖ So Moses prayed for the people. 1 Tim. 2:2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only John 16:23 Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Psalm 107:6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.

Eternal Father, strong to save through our victorious Lord Jesus Christ: By Your Word and Spirit grant us grace and peace in Christ, that whatever troubles, tribulations and temptations may afflict us in this world of sin and sorrow, we may never forget You or forsake You but, strengthened by Your grace and compassionate aid, help us to remain patient and faithful until the day of resurrection... 2. Merciful Father, in Your great love, You have given us the gift of neighbors and community. Remember in compassion the cities of our land, many of which battle crime and corruption, and struggle to maintain the services needed to protect and serve their residents. Graciously give them good and faithful government officials, who hold and administer their offices not to be served, but to serve. Guide them, we implore You, that they may faithfully serve and administer their offices, for the public good and the honor of Your name... 3. Kind Father, our Lord Jesus, in the days of His ministry among us, had no place to lay His head and showed His kindness to those who cried to Him in their distress: Hear the cries of those who suffer and are in need of relief, especially those who are destitute or homeless and who struggle to provide daily bread for themselves and their families. Grant that they may receive the help and assistance they sorely need. Move us to help and assist our neighbors in want, that their daily needs be met, their hope be renewed and their confidence in Your never- failing kindness be strengthened...

Good and gracious God, in Your fatherly kindness and compassion, You generously and daily provide for all our physical needs, pouring forth the blessings of creation upon the just and the unjust, without any merit or worthiness in us. In the new growing season that You now have given us, cause the wholesome fruits of the earth to spring forth in abundance. Bless their growth with abundant sunshine and seasonal rains. Protect them from disease and pestilence, hail and drought, and every kind of danger, that with thankful hearts we may enjoy them to the health of our bodies and be strengthened for Your service... --OPEN PRAYER-- 5. Loving Father, Your Son is the Great Physician of our souls. As a sign of Your kingdom breaking into this world, He healed many who were sick, injured, maimed and distressed. Extend your healing still over those among us who are sick or who suffer from any other infirmity or adversity, that they may have their afflictions lifted from them. Until you give them deliverance and health, now or in the life to come, support them with the strength by which Your Son bore the cross for us, that they be upheld in faith toward You and trust in Your never-failing love and grace... 6. Most merciful Father, Your Son, our Lord Jesus, by His cross and Passion has made us children of God, reconciled us to You, and taught us to pray to You as dear children ask their dear fathers. Grant us that for which we pray, for we ask it in His name, trusting in Your mercy, through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Curb flesh and blood and ev’ry ill That sets itself against Your will. 5. Give us this day our daily bread, And let us all be clothed and fed. Save us from hardship, war, and strife; In plague and famine, spare our life. That we in honest peace may live, To care and greed no entrance give. 6. Forgive our sins, Lord, we implore, That they may trouble us no more; We, too, will gladly those forgive Who hurt us by the way they live. Help us in our community To serve each other willingly. 7. Lead not into temptation, Lord, Where our grim foe and all his horde Would vex our souls on ev’ry hand. Help us resist, help us to stand Firm in the faith, a mighty host, Through comfort of the Holy Ghost. 8. From evil, Lord, deliver us; The times and days are perilous. Redeem us from eternal death, And, when we yield our dying breath, Console us, grant us calm release, And take our souls to You in peace. 9. Amen, that is so shall it be. • 8. Numbers 21:4-9 The Bronze Serpent 4 From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way. 5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.‖ 6 Then the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. 7 And the people came to Moses and said, ―We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us.‖ So Moses prayed for the people. 8 And the LORD said to Moses, ―Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.‖ 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.
  • 9. 1 Timothy 2:1-6 Pray for All People 2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
  • 10. James 1:22-27 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. 26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
  • 11. John 16:23-33 23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. I Have Overcome the World 25 ―I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; 27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.‖ 29 His disciples said, ―Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech! 30 Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God.‖31 Jesus answered them, ―Do you now believe? 32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. 33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.‖

Psalm 107:1-9 Book Five Let the Redeemed of the LORD Say So 107 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble 3 and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. 4 Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; 5 hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. 6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 7 He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. 8 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! 9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
  • 13. SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER (Rogate) Numbers 21:4–9 1 Timothy 2:1–6 or James 1:22–27 John 16:23–30 (31–33) The Father Answers Our Prayers Because of Jesus ―Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you‖ (John 16:23). To pray in Jesus’ name is to pray as one who has been baptized. For it is in the water that He put His name upon you, claiming you as His own, making you a son of God with access to the Father. By His incarnation and crucifixion, our Lord Jesus broke through the barrier of sin which separated us from God, opening a portal to the Father. To pray in Jesus’ name is to pray with faith in Him as the one Mediator between God and men, who gave Himself a ransom for all (1 Tim. 2:1–6). Like Moses in the wilderness, Jesus is our go-between and intercessor before the throne of heaven. He was lifted up for us on the cross that we might be saved and restored to fellowship with the Father (Num. 21:4–9). Looking into this perfect teaching of liberty (James 1:22–27) we pray with boldness and confidence as dear children of God.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
  • 15. Jesus Is Ascended, but Not Absent 2 Kings 2:5-15 5 The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, ―Do you know that today the LORD will take away your master from over you?‖ And he answered, ―Yes, I know it; keep quiet.‖ 6 Then Elijah said to him, ―Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to the Jordan.‖ But he said, ―As the LORD LIVES, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.‖ So the two of them went on. 7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. 8 Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground. 9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, ―Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.‖ And Elisha said, ―Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.‖ 10 And he said, ―You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.‖ 11 And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.12 And Elisha saw it and he cried, ―My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!‖ And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. 13 And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, ―Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?‖ And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over. Elisha Succeeds Elijah 15 Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, ―The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.‖ And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.
  • 16. Acts 1:1-11 The Promise of the Holy Spirit 1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. 4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, ―you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.‖ The Ascension 6 So when they had come together, they asked him, ―Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?‖ 7 He said to them, ―It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.‖ 9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, ―Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.‖

And the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.24 I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. 28 You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God. 1 Peter 4:7-14 7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. Suffering as a Christian 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. John 15:26-16:4 26 ―But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with mefrom the beginning. 16 ―I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. 3 And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. 4 But I have said these things to you, that whentheir hour comes you may remember that I told them to you. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. 51 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
