Let us pray for the whole
people of God in Christ Jesus
and for all people according to
their needs.
Heavenly Father, everlasting
God, by Your Son‘s blood You
ransomed people from every
tribe and language and people
and nation. Send servants of
Your Word to proclaim this
good news throughout the
world, that many may be
gathered into Your family and
Your Church may increase.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our
prayer.
Almighty God, in loving
kindness you protect and
defend all who call on Your
name. Send your Spirit among
us, that as we wrestle against
the present darkness of this
world, we may take up the
whole armor of God, that with
prayer and supplication we may
stand firm in our faith. Lord, in
Your mercy, hear our prayer.
King of Kings and Lord of
Lords, You alone reign on high.
Guide our government and all
public servants; give them
wisdom and courage to act in
accordance with Your will, that
their work may glorify your
holy name. Lord, in Your
mercy, hear our prayer.

Fountain and Source of all
goodness, You overflow with
mercy and grace. Help us to
recognize our need of a
Savior, that with repentant hearts
we may return to our baptismal
covenant and receive the
Eucharist in a salutary manner.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our
prayer.
Loving Father, we thank you for
graciously adopting us, that we
may be called children of God.
Today we also thank You for
providing earthly Fathers to love
and care for us. Bless them and
grant them peace and joy, that
through their vocation our
families may grow in love
toward You and one another.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our
prayer.
Blessed Lord, with compassion
children. Comfort all who are
sick and
suffering, [especially, ________
_]. Keep them in Your tender
care, that in their times of trial
they may look to You and find
hope and healing. Lord, in Your
mercy, hear our prayer.
Holy Father, Your Son is the
resurrection and the life. We
thank you today for all who have
fallen asleep in faith in
Him, awaiting the joyful
resurrection of their bodies.
Bring us to share with them the
joys of Your new heavens and
earth. Lord, in Your mercy, hear
our prayer.
Into Your hands, O Lord, we
commend all for whom we
pray, trusting in Your
mercy, through Your Son, Jesus
Christ, our Lord. Amen.

1 Timothy 1:12-17
Thanks for God‘s Mercy
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord because
he trusted me and gave me this work of
serving him. He gives me strength. 13 In
the past I insulted Christ. As a proud
and violent man, I persecuted his
people. But God gave me mercy
because I did not know what I was
doing. I did that before I became a
believer. 14 But our Lord gave me a full
measure of his grace. And with that
grace came the faith and love that are in
Christ Jesus.
15 Here is a true statement that should be
accepted without question: Christ Jesus
came into the world to save sinners, and
I am the worst of them. 16 But I was
given mercy so that in me Christ Jesus
could show that he has patience without
limit. Christ showed his patience with
me, the worst of all sinners. He wanted
me to be an example for those who
would believe in him and have eternal
life.17 Honor and glory to the King who
rules forever. He cannot be destroyed
and cannot be seen. Honor and glory
forever and ever to the only God. Amen.
1 Peter 5:6-11
6 So be humble under God‘s powerful hand.
Then he will lift you up when the right time
comes. 7 Give all your worries to
him, because he cares for you.
8 Control yourselves and be careful! The
devil is your enemy, and he goes around
like a roaring lion looking for someone to
attack and eat. 9 Refuse to follow the devil.
Stand strong in your faith. You know that
your brothers and sisters all over the world
are having the same sufferings that you
have.
10 Yes, you will suffer for a short time. But
after that, God will make everything right.
He will make you strong. He will support
you and keep you from falling. He is the
God who gives all grace. He chose you to
share in his glory in Christ. That glory will
continue forever. 11 All power is his forever.
Amen.
Luke 15:1-10
Joy in Heaven
15 Many tax collectors and sinners came
to listen to Jesus. 2 Then the Pharisees and
the teachers of the law began to
complain, ―Look, this man[a] welcomes
sinners and even eats with them!‖
3 Then Jesus told them this
story: 4 ―Suppose one of you has 100
sheep, but one of them gets lost. What
will you do? You will leave the other 99
sheep there in the field and go out and
look for the lost sheep. You will continue
to search for it until you find it. 5 And
when you find it, you will be very happy.
You will carry it 6 home, go to your
friends and neighbors and say to
them, ‗Be happy with me because I found
my lost sheep!‘ 7 In the same way, I tell
you, heaven is a happy place when one
sinner decides to change. There is more
joy for that one sinner than for 99 good
people who don‘t need to change.
8 ―Suppose a woman has ten silver
coins,[b] but she loses one of them. She
will take a light and clean the house. She
will look carefully for the coin until she
finds it. 9 And when she finds it, she will
call her friends and neighbors and say to
them, ‗Be happy with me because I have
found the coin that I lost!‘ 10 In the same
way, it‘s a happy time for the angels of
God when one sinner decides to change.‖
Luke 15:11-32
Story About Two Sons
11 Then Jesus said, ―There was a man who had two
sons. 12 The younger son said to his father, ‗Give me
now the part of your property that I am supposed to
receive someday.‘ So the father divided his wealth
between his two sons.
13 ―A few days later the younger son gathered up all that
he had and left. He traveled far away to another
country, and there he wasted his money living like a
fool. 14 After he spent everything he had, there was a
terrible famine throughout the country. He was hungry
and needed money. 15 So he went and got a job with one
of the people who lived there. The man sent him into
the fields to feed pigs.16 He was so hungry that he
wanted to eat the food the pigs were eating. But no one
gave him anything.
17 ―The son realized that he had been very foolish. He
thought, ‗All my father‘s hired workers have plenty of
food. But here I am, almost dead because I have
nothing to eat. 18 I will leave and go to my father. I will
say to him: Father, I have sinned against God and have
done wrong to you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be
called your son. But let me be like one of your hired
workers.‘ 20 So he left and went to his father.
The Younger Son Returns
―While the son was still a long way off, his father saw
him coming and felt sorry for him. So he ran to him and
21
no longer worthy to be called your son.‘
22 ―But the father said to his servants, ‗Hurry! Bring the
best clothes and put them on him. Also, put a ring on
his finger and good sandals on his feet. 23 And bring our
best calf and kill it so that we can celebrate with plenty
to eat. 24 My son was dead, but now he is alive again!
He was lost, but now he is found!‘ So they began to
have a party.
The Older Son Complains
25 ―The older son had been out in the field. When he
came near the house, he heard the sound of music and
dancing. 26 So he called to one of the servant boys and
asked, ‗What does all this mean?‘27 The boy said, ‗Your
brother has come back, and your father killed the best
calf to eat. He is happy because he has his son back safe
and sound.‘
28 ―The older son was angry and would not go in to the
party. So his father went out and begged him to come
in. 29 But he said to his father, ‗Look, for all these years
I have worked like a slave for you. I have always done
what you told me to do, and you never gave me even a
young goat for a party with my friends. 30 But then this
son of yours comes home after wasting your money on
prostitutes, and you kill the best calf for him!‘
31 ―His father said to him, ‗Oh, my son, you are always
with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But this was
a day to be happy and celebrate. Your brother was
dead, but now he is alive. He was lost, but now he is
Psalm 103:1-13
A song of David.
103 My soul, praise the LORD!
Every part of me, praise his holy name!
2 My soul, praise the LORD
and never forget how kind he is!
3 He forgives all our sins
and heals all our sicknesses.
4 He saves us from the grave,
and he gives us love and compassion.
5 He gives us plenty of good things.
He makes us young again,
like an eagle that grows new feathers.
6 The LORD does what is fair.
He brings justice to all who have been
hurt by others.
7 He taught his laws to Moses.
He let Israel see the powerful things he
can do.
8 The LORD is kind and merciful.
He is patient and full of love.
9 He does not always criticize.
He does not stay angry with us forever.
10 We sinned against him,
but he didn‘t give us the punishment
we deserved.
11 His love for his followers is
as high above us as heaven is above the
earth.
12 And he has taken our sins
as far away from us as the east is from
the west.
13 The LORD is as kind to his followers
as a father is to his children.

Jesus Receives Sinners
―This man receives sinners and eats with them‖ (Luke 15:2). The Pharisees‘ statement of
judgment against Jesus is in fact a proclamation of Gospel truth. For our God is one who
delights in mercy, who casts all our sins into the depths of the sea through the cross (Micah
7:18–20). ―Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners‖ (1 Tim. 1:15). Those who refuse to
be counted as sinners also refuse Jesus who came only for sinners. Those like the older son
(Luke 15:11–32), who think they are righteous of themselves, will not join in the heavenly
celebration over the sinner who repents and so remain outside of the Father‘s house. Let us
therefore be on guard against self–righteously trusting in our own merits. ―Humble
yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt
you‖ (1 Peter 5:6). Rejoice that Jesus receives sinners like us and that He still sits at table with
us in the Holy Supper, bestowing His forgiveness and life.

The Brothers Are Still Afraid of Joseph
15 After Jacob died, Joseph‘s brothers were worried.
They were afraid that Joseph would still be mad at
them for what they had done years before. They
said, ―Maybe Joseph still hates us for what we
did.‖ 16 So the brothers sent this message to Joseph:
―Before your father died, he told us to give you a
message. 17 He said, ‗Tell Joseph that I beg him to
please forgive his brothers for the bad things they did
to him.‘ So now Joseph, we beg you, please forgive us
for the bad things we did to you. We are the servants
of God, the God of your father.‖
That message made Joseph very sad, and he
cried. 18 His brothers went to him and bowed down in
front of him. They said, ―We will be your servants.‖
19 Then Joseph said to them, ―Don‘t be afraid. I am not
God! I have no right to punish you. 20 It is true that
you planned to do something bad to me. But
really, God was planning good things. God‘s plan was
to use me to save the lives of many people. And that is
what happened. 21 So don‘t be afraid. I will take care
of you and your children.‖ And so Joseph said kind
things to his brothers, and this made them feel better.
Romans 12:14-21
14 Wish only good for those who treat you badly. Ask
God to bless them, not curse them. 15 When others are
happy, you should be happy with them. And when
others are sad, you should be sad too.16 Live together
in peace with each other. Don‘t be proud, but be
willing to be friends with people who are not
important to others. Don‘t think of yourself as smarter
than everyone else.
17 If someone does you wrong, don‘t try to pay them
back by hurting them. Try to do what everyone thinks
is right. 18 Do the best you can to live in peace with
everyone. 19 My friends, don‘t try to punish anyone
who does wrong to you. Wait for God to punish them
with his anger. In the Scriptures the Lord says,
―I am the one who punishes;
I will pay people back.‖
20 But you should do this:
―If you have enemies who are hungry,
give them something to eat.
If you have enemies who are thirsty,
give them something to drink.
In doing this you will make them feel ashamed.[a]‖
21 Don‘t let evil defeat you, but defeat evil by doing
good.
Romans 8:18-23
We Will Have Glory in the Future
18 We have sufferings now, but these are nothing
compared to the great glory that will be given to
us. 19 Everything that God made is waiting with
excitement for the time when he will show the world
who his children are. The whole world wants very
much for that to happen. 20 Everything God made was
allowed to become like something that cannot fulfill
its purpose. That was not its choice, but God made it
happen with this hope in view: 21 That the creation
would be made free from ruin—that everything God
made would have the same freedom and glory that
belong to God‘s children.
22 We know that everything God made has been
waiting until now in pain like a woman ready to give
birth to a child. 23 Not only the world, but we also have
been waiting with pain inside us. We have the Spirit as
the first part of God‘s promise. So we are waiting for
God to finish making us his own children. I mean we
are waiting for our bodies to be made free.
Luke 6:36-42
)
36 Give love and mercy the same as your Father gives
love and mercy.
Be Careful About Criticizing Others
37 ―Don‘t judge others, and God will not judge you.
Don‘t condemn others, and you will not be
condemned. Forgive others, and you will be
forgiven. 38 Give to others, and you will receive. You
will be given much. It will be poured into your
hands—more than you can hold. You will be given so
much that it will spill into your lap. The way you give
to others is the way God will give to you.‖
39 Jesus told them this story: ―Can a blind man lead
another blind man? No. Both of them will fall into a
ditch. 40 Students are not better than their teacher. But
when they have been fully taught, they will be like
their teacher.
41 ―Why do you notice the small piece of dust that is in
your friend‘s eye, but you don‘t see the big piece of
wood that is in your own eye? 42 You say to your
friend, ‗Let me get that little piece of dust out of your
eye.‘ Why do you say this? Can‘t you see that big
piece of wood in your own eye? You are a hypocrite.
First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you
will see clearly to get the dust out of your friend‘s eye.
Psalm 138
A song of David.
138 LORD, I praise you with all my heart.
I sing songs of praise to you before the gods.
2 I bow down toward your holy Temple,
and I praise your name for your love and loyalty.
You are famous,
and doing what you promised will make you even
more famous!
3 When I called to you for help,
you answered me and gave me strength.
4 LORD, all the kings on earth will praise you
when they hear what you say.
5 They will sing about what the LORD has done,
because the glory of the LORD is very great.
6 The LORD has the highest place above all others,
but he still cares for the humble.
Even from there, so high above,
he knows what the proud do.
7 If I am in trouble, you keep me alive.
If my enemies are angry, you save me from them.
8 LORD, I know you will do what you have promised.
LORD, your faithful love will last forever.
You are the one who made us, so don‘t leave us!

  • 1. Third Sunday after Trinity: Jesus Receives Sinners Micah 7:18-20; 1 Timothy 1:12-17; 1 Peter 5:6-11; Luke 15:1-10; Luke 15:11-32; Psalm 103:1-13 Memorization Verses: Micah 7:18 There is no God like you. You take away people‘s guilt. 1 Timothy 1:14 But our Lord gave me a full measure of his grace. And with that grace came the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 5:6 So be humble under God‘s powerful hand. Then he will lift you up when the right time comes. Luke 15:2 ―Look, this man[a] welcomes sinners and even eats with them!‖ Luke 15:21 Your brother was dead, but now he is alive. He was lost, but now he is found.‘‖ Psalm 103:2 My soul, praise the LORD and never forget how kind he is!
  • 2. How do you imagine Jesus ―hanging out with sinners‖ if he came today?
  • 3.  Use your prayer notes.  Use a verse from the bible to reflect on.  Pray for sinners.  P raise R epentance A ppreciation Y ou E veryone R esolve Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. Heavenly Father, everlasting God, by Your Son‘s blood You ransomed people from every tribe and language and people and nation. Send servants of Your Word to proclaim this good news throughout the world, that many may be gathered into Your family and Your Church may increase. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Almighty God, in loving kindness you protect and defend all who call on Your name. Send your Spirit among us, that as we wrestle against the present darkness of this world, we may take up the whole armor of God, that with prayer and supplication we may stand firm in our faith. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, You alone reign on high. Guide our government and all public servants; give them wisdom and courage to act in accordance with Your will, that their work may glorify your holy name. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • 4.  Use your prayer notes.  Use a verse from the bible to reflect on.  Pray for sinners.  P raise R epentance A ppreciation Y ou E veryone R esolve Fountain and Source of all goodness, You overflow with mercy and grace. Help us to recognize our need of a Savior, that with repentant hearts we may return to our baptismal covenant and receive the Eucharist in a salutary manner. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Loving Father, we thank you for graciously adopting us, that we may be called children of God. Today we also thank You for providing earthly Fathers to love and care for us. Bless them and grant them peace and joy, that through their vocation our families may grow in love toward You and one another. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Blessed Lord, with compassion children. Comfort all who are sick and suffering, [especially, ________ _]. Keep them in Your tender care, that in their times of trial they may look to You and find hope and healing. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Holy Father, Your Son is the resurrection and the life. We thank you today for all who have fallen asleep in faith in Him, awaiting the joyful resurrection of their bodies. Bring us to share with them the joys of Your new heavens and earth. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

  • 8. 1 Timothy 1:12-17 Thanks for God‘s Mercy 12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord because he trusted me and gave me this work of serving him. He gives me strength. 13 In the past I insulted Christ. As a proud and violent man, I persecuted his people. But God gave me mercy because I did not know what I was doing. I did that before I became a believer. 14 But our Lord gave me a full measure of his grace. And with that grace came the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 Here is a true statement that should be accepted without question: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, and I am the worst of them. 16 But I was given mercy so that in me Christ Jesus could show that he has patience without limit. Christ showed his patience with me, the worst of all sinners. He wanted me to be an example for those who would believe in him and have eternal life.17 Honor and glory to the King who rules forever. He cannot be destroyed and cannot be seen. Honor and glory forever and ever to the only God. Amen.
  • 9. 1 Peter 5:6-11 6 So be humble under God‘s powerful hand. Then he will lift you up when the right time comes. 7 Give all your worries to him, because he cares for you. 8 Control yourselves and be careful! The devil is your enemy, and he goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to attack and eat. 9 Refuse to follow the devil. Stand strong in your faith. You know that your brothers and sisters all over the world are having the same sufferings that you have. 10 Yes, you will suffer for a short time. But after that, God will make everything right. He will make you strong. He will support you and keep you from falling. He is the God who gives all grace. He chose you to share in his glory in Christ. That glory will continue forever. 11 All power is his forever. Amen.
  • 10. Luke 15:1-10 Joy in Heaven 15 Many tax collectors and sinners came to listen to Jesus. 2 Then the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to complain, ―Look, this man[a] welcomes sinners and even eats with them!‖ 3 Then Jesus told them this story: 4 ―Suppose one of you has 100 sheep, but one of them gets lost. What will you do? You will leave the other 99 sheep there in the field and go out and look for the lost sheep. You will continue to search for it until you find it. 5 And when you find it, you will be very happy. You will carry it 6 home, go to your friends and neighbors and say to them, ‗Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep!‘ 7 In the same way, I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner decides to change. There is more joy for that one sinner than for 99 good people who don‘t need to change. 8 ―Suppose a woman has ten silver coins,[b] but she loses one of them. She will take a light and clean the house. She will look carefully for the coin until she finds it. 9 And when she finds it, she will call her friends and neighbors and say to them, ‗Be happy with me because I have found the coin that I lost!‘ 10 In the same way, it‘s a happy time for the angels of God when one sinner decides to change.‖
  • 11. Luke 15:11-32 Story About Two Sons 11 Then Jesus said, ―There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger son said to his father, ‗Give me now the part of your property that I am supposed to receive someday.‘ So the father divided his wealth between his two sons. 13 ―A few days later the younger son gathered up all that he had and left. He traveled far away to another country, and there he wasted his money living like a fool. 14 After he spent everything he had, there was a terrible famine throughout the country. He was hungry and needed money. 15 So he went and got a job with one of the people who lived there. The man sent him into the fields to feed pigs.16 He was so hungry that he wanted to eat the food the pigs were eating. But no one gave him anything. 17 ―The son realized that he had been very foolish. He thought, ‗All my father‘s hired workers have plenty of food. But here I am, almost dead because I have nothing to eat. 18 I will leave and go to my father. I will say to him: Father, I have sinned against God and have done wrong to you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But let me be like one of your hired workers.‘ 20 So he left and went to his father. The Younger Son Returns ―While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him coming and felt sorry for him. So he ran to him and 21 no longer worthy to be called your son.‘ 22 ―But the father said to his servants, ‗Hurry! Bring the best clothes and put them on him. Also, put a ring on his finger and good sandals on his feet. 23 And bring our best calf and kill it so that we can celebrate with plenty to eat. 24 My son was dead, but now he is alive again! He was lost, but now he is found!‘ So they began to have a party. The Older Son Complains 25 ―The older son had been out in the field. When he came near the house, he heard the sound of music and dancing. 26 So he called to one of the servant boys and asked, ‗What does all this mean?‘27 The boy said, ‗Your brother has come back, and your father killed the best calf to eat. He is happy because he has his son back safe and sound.‘ 28 ―The older son was angry and would not go in to the party. So his father went out and begged him to come in. 29 But he said to his father, ‗Look, for all these years I have worked like a slave for you. I have always done what you told me to do, and you never gave me even a young goat for a party with my friends. 30 But then this son of yours comes home after wasting your money on prostitutes, and you kill the best calf for him!‘ 31 ―His father said to him, ‗Oh, my son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But this was a day to be happy and celebrate. Your brother was dead, but now he is alive. He was lost, but now he is

Every part of me, praise his holy name! 2 My soul, praise the LORD and never forget how kind he is! 3 He forgives all our sins and heals all our sicknesses. 4 He saves us from the grave, and he gives us love and compassion. 5 He gives us plenty of good things. He makes us young again, like an eagle that grows new feathers. 6 The LORD does what is fair. He brings justice to all who have been hurt by others. 7 He taught his laws to Moses. He let Israel see the powerful things he can do. 8 The LORD is kind and merciful. He is patient and full of love. 9 He does not always criticize. He does not stay angry with us forever. 10 We sinned against him, but he didn‘t give us the punishment we deserved. 11 His love for his followers is as high above us as heaven is above the earth. 12 And he has taken our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west. 13 The LORD is as kind to his followers as a father is to his children.
  • 13. THIRD SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY Micah 7:18–20 1 Timothy 1:12–17 or 1 Peter 5:6–11 Luke 15:1–10 or Luke 15:11–32 Jesus Receives Sinners ―This man receives sinners and eats with them‖ (Luke 15:2). The Pharisees‘ statement of judgment against Jesus is in fact a proclamation of Gospel truth. For our God is one who delights in mercy, who casts all our sins into the depths of the sea through the cross (Micah 7:18–20). ―Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners‖ (1 Tim. 1:15). Those who refuse to be counted as sinners also refuse Jesus who came only for sinners. Those like the older son (Luke 15:11–32), who think they are righteous of themselves, will not join in the heavenly celebration over the sinner who repents and so remain outside of the Father‘s house. Let us therefore be on guard against self–righteously trusting in our own merits. ―Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you‖ (1 Peter 5:6). Rejoice that Jesus receives sinners like us and that He still sits at table with us in the Holy Supper, bestowing His forgiveness and life.

They were afraid that Joseph would still be mad at them for what they had done years before. They said, ―Maybe Joseph still hates us for what we did.‖ 16 So the brothers sent this message to Joseph: ―Before your father died, he told us to give you a message. 17 He said, ‗Tell Joseph that I beg him to please forgive his brothers for the bad things they did to him.‘ So now Joseph, we beg you, please forgive us for the bad things we did to you. We are the servants of God, the God of your father.‖ That message made Joseph very sad, and he cried. 18 His brothers went to him and bowed down in front of him. They said, ―We will be your servants.‖ 19 Then Joseph said to them, ―Don‘t be afraid. I am not God! I have no right to punish you. 20 It is true that you planned to do something bad to me. But really, God was planning good things. God‘s plan was to use me to save the lives of many people. And that is what happened. 21 So don‘t be afraid. I will take care of you and your children.‖ And so Joseph said kind things to his brothers, and this made them feel better. Romans 12:14-21 14 Wish only good for those who treat you badly. Ask God to bless them, not curse them. 15 When others are happy, you should be happy with them. And when others are sad, you should be sad too.16 Live together in peace with each other. Don‘t be proud, but be willing to be friends with people who are not important to others. Don‘t think of yourself as smarter than everyone else. 17 If someone does you wrong, don‘t try to pay them back by hurting them. Try to do what everyone thinks is right. 18 Do the best you can to live in peace with everyone. 19 My friends, don‘t try to punish anyone who does wrong to you. Wait for God to punish them with his anger. In the Scriptures the Lord says, ―I am the one who punishes; I will pay people back.‖ 20 But you should do this: ―If you have enemies who are hungry, give them something to eat. If you have enemies who are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this you will make them feel ashamed.[a]‖ 21 Don‘t let evil defeat you, but defeat evil by doing good. Romans 8:18-23 We Will Have Glory in the Future 18 We have sufferings now, but these are nothing compared to the great glory that will be given to us. 19 Everything that God made is waiting with excitement for the time when he will show the world who his children are. The whole world wants very much for that to happen. 20 Everything God made was allowed to become like something that cannot fulfill its purpose. That was not its choice, but God made it happen with this hope in view: 21 That the creation would be made free from ruin—that everything God made would have the same freedom and glory that belong to God‘s children. 22 We know that everything God made has been waiting until now in pain like a woman ready to give birth to a child. 23 Not only the world, but we also have been waiting with pain inside us. We have the Spirit as the first part of God‘s promise. So we are waiting for God to finish making us his own children. I mean we are waiting for our bodies to be made free. Luke 6:36-42 ) 36 Give love and mercy the same as your Father gives love and mercy. Be Careful About Criticizing Others 37 ―Don‘t judge others, and God will not judge you. Don‘t condemn others, and you will not be condemned. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give to others, and you will receive. You will be given much. It will be poured into your hands—more than you can hold. You will be given so much that it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.‖ 39 Jesus told them this story: ―Can a blind man lead another blind man? No. Both of them will fall into a ditch. 40 Students are not better than their teacher. But when they have been fully taught, they will be like their teacher. 41 ―Why do you notice the small piece of dust that is in your friend‘s eye, but you don‘t see the big piece of wood that is in your own eye? 42 You say to your friend, ‗Let me get that little piece of dust out of your eye.‘ Why do you say this? Can‘t you see that big piece of wood in your own eye? You are a hypocrite. First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to get the dust out of your friend‘s eye. Psalm 138 A song of David. 138 LORD, I praise you with all my heart. I sing songs of praise to you before the gods. 2 I bow down toward your holy Temple, and I praise your name for your love and loyalty. You are famous, and doing what you promised will make you even more famous! 3 When I called to you for help, you answered me and gave me strength. 4 LORD, all the kings on earth will praise you when they hear what you say. 5 They will sing about what the LORD has done, because the glory of the LORD is very great. 6 The LORD has the highest place above all others, but he still cares for the humble. Even from there, so high above, he knows what the proud do. 7 If I am in trouble, you keep me alive. If my enemies are angry, you save me from them. 8 LORD, I know you will do what you have promised. LORD, your faithful love will last forever. You are the one who made us, so don‘t leave us!
