1. Hi everyone. I'm from Peru and it seems that forest management by rural
communities will be effective in some way as long as the management is based on
non commercial purposes. That is, rural and native commmunities that manage the
forest resources for their own use can effectively preserve those resources for
continuous use as it was done for centuries by their cultures. However, when it
comes to big scale commercial exploitation of forest resources, being flora or
fauna, forest management by communities is not enough because it's a different
way of production and the support of forest engineers and researchers is needed.
On the other hand, forest specialists learn a lot from rural commmunities: from
traditional uses of forest resources to the current needs and expectations of
the community. So, in the end, community management and scientific management
have to get along to assure the preservation of the forest resources.
