Project Management Experience
Brooks Camp Bear Viewing Facility
Katmai National Park
Meridian served as the National Park Service representative during the
construction of an elevated bear viewing walkway at Katmai National Brooks Camp Bear Viewing
Facility, Katmai National Park
Park and Preserve, Alaska. Katmai is home to more than 2,000 brown
bears (the larger cousin of the grizzly).
The 1,000 LF walkway and covered platforms required 70,000 BF of
lumber and 12 tons of steel be constructed with no impact on the bears
or the surrounding environment.
In addition to the roaming and foraging habits of bears, their natural
curiosity played a part in this project. Off-loading of project materials
from the barge was interrupted when a bear would wander through or
even lay down right in the middle of the loading area.
Meridian assisted the Owner and Contractor and provided on-site
clarification and conflict resolution. We are proud to say this work was
completed without incident … we thank the bears for this as well.

When to Invite Meridian?
• When you feel forced to identify an in-house PM who would
not be able to dedicate full-time attention to a key project
• When you foresee a challenge of hiring a PM for a single
project, and then having to assimilate that PM into the University of Alaska Anchorage
Consortium Library, Anchorage
regular corporate structure Alaska
• When you sense that you do not have a qualified PM available
for a particular project … for obtaining special permits, affidavits, etc.
• When you need a third party “objective” representative to
coordinate & mediate/ arbitrate the complex and too often contentious
Architectural Design, Engineering Design and Construction phases ….
… i.e. contractors’ managing their own design :: “the Fox watching the Hen House”
• When you have had past experience of projects going over-
budgets, not meeting timelines and/or under-quality standards
