2. Learning objectives:
By the end of the lesson:
- Understanding of what Aperture and Shutter speed are, and how to control them.
- Understand the effects of Aperture and Shutter Speed on the photograph.
- Have taken some photographs, using specific Aperture and Shutter Speed to create the look you
want.
What happens when you press the ‘take picture’ button on
a camera?
6. Aperture
The Aperture is how much light is being allowed through
the lens.
You can control the aperture manually in either
‘MANUAL’ mode, or in ‘APERTURE PRIORITY’ mode.
Aperture Priority mode
allows you to control the
aperture yourself, and the
camera will, if possible, set
the correct shutter speed to
expose your picture
correctly.
7. Shutter Speed
The Shutter Speed is the amount of time that the shutter
remains open, allowing the light to hit the sensor.
The shutter can be left open for as long as you need, as long as you
don’t overexpose your image.
8. Shutter Speed
The Shutter Speed is the amount of time that the shutter
remains open, allowing the light to hit the sensor.
You can control the shutter speed manually in either
‘MANUAL’ mode, or in ‘SHUTTER PRIORITY’ mode.
Shutter Priority mode allows
you to control the shutter
speed yourself, and the
camera will, if possible, set
the correct Aperture to
expose your picture
correctly.
