2. The trend of established nurses going on
to further their education to the Master’s
or Doctorate level is growing, especially
in light of the current economy, and the
growing need for more doctors and nurse
practitioners across the country.
3. A good many of them are already
employed as registered nurses, and they
want to find good nurse practitioner
schools from which they can get the best
education possible.
There are some great schools all over the
country that could easily fill that need.
4. East Coast schools
Along the East Coast of the United
States, a good number of colleges and
universities have expanded their nursing
programs to include Masters of Nursing
programs, and some have even opened
up the rolls to Doctorate degrees in
medicine, just for nurses.
5. A great example of this is the College of
Nursing at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill. Their expanded
program from Masters into Doctorate
also include two-year research studies,
and the ability to specialize in a wide
range of fields.
6. Midwest
As far as great nurse practitioner schools
are concerned, two of the finest in the
country can be found in the Midwest. The
University of Pennsylvania is one of the
oldest schools in the country to offer
nurse practitioner degrees, and have
recently expanded their studies to
include Neonatal and Pediatric specialty
opportunities.
7. The University of Illinois at Chicago, on
the other hand, has the only nursing
college offering specializations in Urban
Health, Mental Health, and Women’s
Health.
The only other school to offer similar
programs is in New York City.
8. West
Some of the best schools in the country
can be found on the list of Colorado
nursing practitioner schools. The
University of Colorado, for example,
introduced their Nurse Practitioner
program back in 1965, and was one of
the first schools to address the problem
of insufficient health care for children.
9. Since then, they now offer specialties
and research programs in the fields of
midwifery, neonatal, pediatrics,
gerontology, anesthesiology,
endocrinology, cardiology, neurology,
gastroenterology and nephrology.
10. West Coast
The University of Washington at Tacoma
was one of the first universities on the
west coast to offer studies at a college of
nursing, and the only school in
Washington State where nurses can earn
their advanced degrees in a hybrid
program of online and in-person classes.
11. A field unique to this school is that of
their Masters of Science program for
nurse practitioners, which includes
specializations in environmental studies
and emergency management.
12. The top honors for California nurse
practitioner schools has to go to the
University of California at San Francisco.
Their School of Nursing has been broken
down into four distinct schools for all
advanced study, including Bachelor’s,
Master’s and Doctorate programs.
13. Those schools include: Family Health
Care and Nursing; Community Health
Systems; Physiological Nursing; and
Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Research study programs, sponsored by
major pharmaceutical companies are also
available here, and graduates can often
find employment with those companies,
or at other research facilities around the
world.
