\nGod has called us to be a light to the nations, a blessing to others. We, for those who follow Jesus and proclaim him as Lord, we are to be his servant in this lost and broken world, we are to be Gods moutpiece, his hands and feet. SO that when People look at us they can see, in some sense, what Jesus is like, for we are his body.\n\nI want to begin with a false but true story. \n\nThe sun had been beating down all day, but still they came. By the time Jesus had fisniehd speakign there were at least 5,000 men gathered, aswell as women and children. They had come from far and wide to meet Jesus. They had heard what he and his followers had been up to. They were hungry for many of them had not eaten for days. A small child came forward with 5 loaves and two fish. Jesus, who was sat with his disciples, took the five loaves and two fish... looked to heaven, gave thanks and gave the food to his desciples....\nThe desciples of Jesus ate like kings in full view of the starving people. But what was truely amazing about this meal , was that they had finished the massive banquet there were not enough crumbs left to fill a starving persons hand. \n\n[Pause]\n\nDo you see somehting important from that false but true story... We, like the desciples in this story, are called to serve others, to be a blessing. Yet teh church often fails in the task it is called to do. When we look back on Church history we often see that this is the case, people ahve taken the name of CHrist and have done the most horrendous acts of Evil,, crusades, conquistadors, ..... The crusaders and the conquistadors traveled under the banner of CHrist, with the support of the church, with preists as companions. Yet although in theory they allied themselves with the prince of peace they, warmed their swords on the blood of innocents. Bristol ... connection with slavery.\n\n\n\n\nLikewise, today many say they are followers of Jesus but their lives do not show it. We ourselves have, metaphorically, blood on our hands, we claim to follow Jesus but often care more about our gadgets, houses and retirement than the glory of God and love of neighbour, we have worshipped at the altars of individualism, consumerism and greed... and often fall short of the calling which God has placed on our lives. \n\n\nMohandas Gandhi Quotes \n\nI like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.\n\n\n\n\n\n And yet there are some who are faithful witnesses for Christ in this world, who offer themselves as humble servants of the great King. \n\n\n
Not Just a physical captivity... but a spiritual captivity. They could be led back to Zion through action of Cyrus, but this does not mean they are walking with God.\n\nPsalm 115.8\n\nThis brings us to the first of two golden rules at the heart of spirituality. You become what you worship. When you gaze in awe, admiration, and wonder at something or someone, you begin to take on something of the character of the object of your worship. Those who worship money become, eventually, human calculating machines. Those who worship sex become obsessed with their own attractiveness or prowess. Those who worship power become more and more ruthless. \n \n\nThe other servant is found in 4 SERVANT SONGS:\n ISaiah 42: 1-4\n 49.1-7\n 50 4-11\n 52.13-53.12\n
