2. Launched in 2011, the Visitor Insights
Programme (VIP) was established to fill
a gap in the information available to the
tourism sector and provide a leading
source of regional-level visitor
information in New Zealand.
As a result, subscribers have access to
essential information through a robust,
affordable and flexible programme of
research.
3. The programme supports a range of
marketing-professionals and decision-
makers in the New Zealand tourism
sector - and is supported by the
involvement of a number of Regional
Tourism Operators (RTO's), industry
groups and individual operators.
Those involved can track awareness,
understand their visitor profiles and
gather market insight relative to other
regions.
5. Surveying more than 600 domestic and
international visitors per month, across
6+ visitor destinations in the country, the
VIP provides a sample of over 7,000
visitors a year - providing valuable
insights in the perceptions and
experiences of visitors and feedback on
strategic issues - such as the impact of
major events, or marketing campaigns
on awareness and visitor activity.

7. Running for over three years now, the
VIP today sports a sample of 25,000
domestic and international New
Zealand travellers - this allows us to
profile results by seasonal changes and
individual market origin (for example).
Subscribing regions also have the
ability to benchmark against their peers
to see how satisfaction & visitor
behaviour in their region compares with
others.
8. A series of market profiles using VIP
data are now available for purchase.
These include regional market
penetration profiles, and profiles of
travellers with specific interests.
These insights will allows RTO's, local
government, industry operators and
other to further understand the relevent
market profile and how it is changing
over time.
