  • 31. Questions? What’s New in IBM Informix 12.1

Editor's Notes

  1. Ease of use/Productivity Informix is well-known for its minimal complexity and lower computing costs strengthened by latest enhancements: Administration is more graphical than ever, with new heat maps and a single screen to manage all Informix servers as part of the out-of-the-box experience. Further, you can now monitor all your Informix environments from your smart device. The new storage manager is much faster and easier to use – needing only 2 start-up steps compared to the prior 40 steps. Compression is not just for tables anymore – now it’s extended to indexes and blobs not only saving significant storage space, but also improving performance. One major partner reported throughput improvements of 30% (during early validation testing). Cloud (and Enterprise Replication) Again, Informix is well-known for its high-availability, and it remains the only database that can be utilized and provisioned on heterogeneous, commodity hardware, different O/S, and different database versions. That is ideal for cloud deployments! This is further strengthened by new “query sharding”, enabling much faster and easier execution of queries over distributed nodes. Warehouse Acceleration There are powerful new capabilities for data warehousing as well. Informix was a trail-blazer with the introduction of in-memory acceleration of complex queries, and now brings the new “trickle feed” capability that automatically updates any changed data from the Informix Warehouse into Informix Warehouse accelerator. This is speed-of-thought analysis of real-time data! Smart Meter and Sensor Data solutions (upcoming slides speak to this quite a bit) Embedded Data Management All of the ease of use features, along with a small footprint, make Informix ideal for embedded data management. A long-time IBM Business Partner, Pronto Software, is a great example (segues to next slide).

Requirements submitter interacts directly with Product Management No need to involve Customer Support or Sales rep Requirements go to back-end system already being used by Product Management & Development No separate tracking system that is not “part of the process” Improved ability to monitor and manage requirements Watch lists, “me too”, groups, voting Crisply defined Service Level Agreements Compliance to SLAs will be monitored monthly by Informix team Consistent requirements system for IBM Software Group products
