In big bold font, the actors name is shown. This
draws attention as he is a very well known actor
and has a very large fan base. By showing this its
will attract his fans to go and see the film. Also
the name stands out against the background.
Beneath is the films tagline, this explains what
the film is about in a sentence. It also helps
define the genre of the film. By saying ‘is not
alone’ it keeps the viewer wondering what else is
in the film, resulting in them wanting to find out
by watching the film.
By having Will Smith in the foreground of the
poster it shows he is the main attraction and
character of the film. Also by being the largest
figure in the poster it shows his importance.
The background of the image shows the hazard
sign, this shows to use that some kind of
biological problem has occurred. Also the smoke
and decay of the background suggests the theme
of destruction in the film. Also the overturned
car and the random weeds in the road support
this theme and are conventional to the genre. It
also shows that no one is able to keep up the
condition of the town, or able to maintain it.
Again, the clear
theme of destruction
carry's out
throughout the films
posters, with the
destruction of the
famous Brooklyn
Bridge in the iconic
city of New York. Also
it shows the theme of
loneliness as
destroying a cities
transportation can
destroy a whole city.
We can also see in the background
that the sun is setting, and the
character has a gun in his hand, this
could suggest that something bad
happens at night and that he needs
to defend himself.
The credits in the
poster are kept small
as to not attract
attention from the
main part of the
poster.
There is a clear colour scheme throughout
the poster, browns and yellows, this
suggests the theme of rust and decay as
the city becomes old and abandoned. The
use of these colours almost gives the
poster a sort of sepia effect, the colours
also denote death and illness.
Narrative
There are hints of the films narrative in the
poster these are:
• The main character is played by Will Smith
• The setting is New York
• New York has been hit by a biological disease
• Will Smith is the last remaining human
• He has to fight against something to ensure
his survival.
The poster hints some aspect of the films
genre, it hints at a sci-fi/horror mash up, it could
also have a hint of thriller also because of the
plot of the film.
The sci-fi part comes from the problem of the
biological disease that has spread across New
York, the viewer is easily able to tell this from the
symbols displayed on the buildings on the poster.
The horror aspect comes from the tagline ‘is not
alone’ this would mean something alien, or not
from earth is on the planet and is possibly
hunting him. This is why I could have the gun.
