 J. Randall “Randy” Waterfield is the chairman of Waterfield
Group, a financial services holding company established in
1928. Due to his personal success in the financial industry, J.
Randall Waterfield has been featured on Fox Business News
multiple times in order to discuss the state of the economy. In
August of 2009, Waterfield was interviewed on Fox Business
News about the future of the economy during the lowest point
of the 2009 recession.
The segment included inquiries from Fox Business as to
whether consumers need more incentives to support the
economy. The interviewers were told that although the
recession had not yet come to an end, it would be soon, as
there were favorable Gross Domestic Product numbers in the
second quarter of the year in comparison to a disastrous first
quarter.

 A positive GDP number was predicted for the second
half of 2009, as the low numbers in the first half were
due to a decline in markets like automotive and
housing, and even a slight improvement to any of
those markets would add at least one point to the
GDP.
The interview revealed that the first step in improving
the economy was positive GDP growth, and the
second step was improvement in jobs and
employment. The interviewers showed concern that
their subject’s current focus was on inflation, but he
assured them that when considering the best interests
of individual consumers, now is the best time for
consumers to protect themselves from inflation while
the focus is on other things.
