Text http://www.opinion.uwaterloo.ca/browse/view/279 Of the twelve start-ups, if they can be called that, that Jesse Rodgers has listed as part of the article I can't help but feel slight dissatisfaction as the vast majority of these project aren't what can traditionally be considered 'innovative', instead falling squarely into that listless mire known as 'derivative' .

Maxwell's Music House often features student musicians, the K-W Symphony's M4U program offers extraordinary discounts to students, and new initiatives are launched every day. We still have a long way to go, but you can see the change happening . - VeloCity runs 70 students per term, 210 per year. Currently funded by Housing.
- “ looking to work with an academic in x with y skills” is now complimented by the ability of the students. Accelerator Centre, OCE, Rogers, Apple, etc.
- Before Spring 2009, on part-time director, a co-ordinator on contract, and heavy reliance on a Impact. Two Associate Directors hired, later a community manager (co-op).
- Funding for 3 teams from across the country, 42 applications. 5 min video, business plan.
- Half a dozen traditional news papers, ~62K in ad value.
- Not all positive but missing the point.
- We generate a lot of media buzz. We are successful but defining that is hard.
- Feedback from local entrepreneurs is one of excitement.
- Think big but be realistic, build a small piece.
- We must stay true to the community we live in. If we aren’t trying new things we aren’t learning.
- Is an incubator a priority in this fiscal reality?
