The Fact is, Fire Kills…
• In 2006
   – Fire killed more Americans than all natural disasters combined.
       • 3,245 civilians casualties
       • 16,400 civilian injuries
       • 106 firefighters killed while on duty.
   – Property loss due to fires was estimated at $11.3 billion.
   – Over 90% of all fires are extinguished and never reported.

• Because fire extinguishers are proven and reliable, National, State
   and Local fire codes require fire extinguishers in commercial
   structures. However…Fire extinguishers are only effective if they are
   accessible and working.

   Austin-Bergstrom airport
   authorities to a car fire in a remote
   airport parking garage and enabled

Bomber May Have Eyed Court
                               16 May 2005

A Brooklyn man found dead in his home amid an arsenal of weapons —
including a pipe bomb under construction — may have been planning to
take the device to court today, for his sentence hearing on an earlier
weapons charge, a law-enforcement source said yesterday.

His wife found his body in the bedroom of their Mill Basin home Friday.
He apparently died of natural causes. She told police that she later went
into his workroom — which he had kept off limits from her — and
discovered a cache of guns and an AK-47 assault rifle. Then, on a table,
she saw what looked to be a work in progress — a fire extinguisher
packed with gunpowder, ball bearings and metal fragments.

Police said the bomb would have been powerful enough to wipe out a
crowd of people.
Oxford teen had cache of bombs, blueprints
                                      March 21, 2006

A 16-year-old Oxford boy is being held in juvenile detention while investigators try to
unravel the reasons why he allegedly amassed a cache of homemade bombs and the
blueprints of Oxford High School.

Joel Thomas faces several charges related to break-ins earlier this spring at an Oxford
school district maintenance building and the Oxford Public Library as well as arson at
another school maintenance building.

Police discovered as many as a dozen bombs and the blueprints in a search of Thomas’
Pontiac Street home.

Thomas is charged with arson of real property and breaking and entering in the May
14 fire of a garage at 107 Pontiac Street; breaking and entering in an April 21 incident
at the library; and a May 6 break-in at a second maintenance building, where police
say he stole walkie-talkies, keys, a scanner, batteries, a battery charger and a fire
extinguisher

Bomber May Have Eyed Court 16 May 2005 A Brooklyn man found dead in his home amid an arsenal of weapons — including a pipe bomb under construction — may have been planning to take the device to court today, for his sentence hearing on an earlier weapons charge, a law-enforcement source said yesterday. His wife found his body in the bedroom of their Mill Basin home Friday. He apparently died of natural causes. She told police that she later went into his workroom — which he had kept off limits from her — and discovered a cache of guns and an AK-47 assault rifle. Then, on a table, she saw what looked to be a work in progress — a fire extinguisher packed with gunpowder, ball bearings and metal fragments. Police said the bomb would have been powerful enough to wipe out a crowd of people.

Oxford teen had cache of bombs, blueprints March 21, 2006 A 16-year-old Oxford boy is being held in juvenile detention while investigators try to unravel the reasons why he allegedly amassed a cache of homemade bombs and the blueprints of Oxford High School. Joel Thomas faces several charges related to break-ins earlier this spring at an Oxford school district maintenance building and the Oxford Public Library as well as arson at another school maintenance building. Police discovered as many as a dozen bombs and the blueprints in a search of Thomas’ Pontiac Street home. Thomas is charged with arson of real property and breaking and entering in the May 14 fire of a garage at 107 Pontiac Street; breaking and entering in an April 21 incident at the library; and a May 6 break-in at a second maintenance building, where police say he stole walkie-talkies, keys, a scanner, batteries, a battery charger and a fire extinguisher
