4. Teachers should select or create mathematical tasks that take advantage of what ICT can do efficiently and well - graphing, producing dynamic images, computing and providing access to data . Useful tools include graphic calculators, interactive whiteboards and other audiovisual aids, together with a range of software packages. The internet and the world wide web can also be used to design effective learning tasks, such as simulating problem-solving situations that are difficult to create without technology.

Screen captures done with Greenshot – free download – I find it much quicker than Prt Screen because easy to select area capturing – you may prefer to use your whiteboard camera tools
Having ICT available is like having an extra box of the tools. It allows us to explore imagine and create. While we need to know what each of the tools does and how to use it, it becomes far more exciting when we use them when appropriate to create something new. Just a few possibilities here. Actually quite a few – so don’t try everything next week – but hopefully at some point you’ll think “hey I could use that for…” – not nec what I am suggesting
Make it real creative exciting When the BBC did a survey of children to see if wanted to have a website to help with school work and home work = not much interest When asked – do you want to learn to be a time-lord, learn to navigate space, solve logic problems to escape the daleks, etc much more enthusiatic
Just paste it in and click submit
Great set of Google docs – teachers collaborating to show different ways they have used a variety of applications in the classroom.
Photos – as we become more familiar with IWB software / videoing software etc – the issue is often finding the right picture – with the right to use it. Flickrcc – searches for pictures where this right has been given as long as the photo is attributed to the photographer
We’re in Brazil
With this photographer – what else can we (the photographer) see?
Now the panoramic views from the same place
Have been using this site now for many years
Have been using this site now for many years
Have been using this site now for many years
Tom Barrett again
Lots we can do with maps
Also used maps to set maths problems for children
When setting up scenarios use real time costs / timetables / weather forecasts etc
Spreadsheets – another underused resource Spreadsheets help us answer mathematical questions more quickly if we understand how to set them up efficiently. First two questions are for children – thinking about efficiency Early - familiarity – shopping list / traffic survey Middle – extending the shopping list idea – multiple items – could be just modelling – this mimics a cash machine – it doesn’t take short cuts it’s just fast – you are cleverer - what techniques do you use to aid calculation Formatting aids accessibility
Geometry – an area we are much more used to using ICT – and recognising the need for it
Relatively new software – very useful for Years 5&6 – free download
Back to words – blogging – being taken up very enthusiastically by more schools now.
Heathfields good example and have used Voicethread to say why they like it so much
Twitter – news Showed this to one teacher – who was off to do the same with MacBeth
Easy collaborating tool Put in words pictures files etc – From interesting ways page
Now your turn – register so we can see who you are – or go in anon
