Hello, and thanks for downloading my ten easy steps to selecting your next
winning Amazon product to sell as an Affiliate online. This report is based
on my personal user experience and learning over the years that
I have been online. I use these very exact same techniques for each and
every product-orientated website I’m involved with today.
My name is Chris Cole and I’m from Northern Ireland, part of the UK.
I’ve been marketing online for over 2 years now and I’ve invested a lot of
time immersed in understanding Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and
ranking product sites because I’ve always known this is where many fail
online. They simply don’t understand fully the concept of SEO.
Further – and more to the point in this report - I’ve noticed that many don’t
know how to select their first products from Amazon and - because of this -
they make mistakes in promoting the wrong items for their websites.
WHAT I SHARE IN THIS REPORT
I’m sharing with you how to check Amazon to select winning products for
your website in ten easy steps. Finding a suitable product is one of the very
first things you need to do - even before you buy your domain name - so if
you get this right, you’re off to a great start in your Amazon Affiliate career!

WHY AMAZON?
Amazon as a brand is very well known, even by your 80 year old granny.
That’s why. They are a “trusted” website and source. People just trust
Amazon and will happily buy via Amazon because they know they have
guarantees and will get superb customer support. If you have ANY issues,
then Amazon will sort them promptly. Simply put, Amazon’s customer
services and brand is completely trusted by all who shop online.
Another reason is that people can’t help themselves when they visit the
Amazon website! They arrive looking for a drill and leave with both the
drill and 4 other products, either related or not. Amazon are masters at
upsells. With their subtle selling they entice people to spend more than
they intended, even to the point where customers leave feeling very happy
with their purchases from Amazon.com!
You’ll see from screenshots provided in this report examples of the
upselling tactics Amazon use to great effect, and this is part of the reason
that they are such a successful online business. Have you seen anything
like this below before? It is very common throughout the Amazon.com
website.
Some of the tactics they employ is to use trigger lines like: “Customers who
bought this product also bought” and terms like “frequently bought
together” will also appear. Even, “what do customers ultimately buy
after viewing this item”?
So, Amazon.com spend much time and effort in upselling to their customers
when they visit their site. They have spent years perfecting their methods,
not to mention the money invested to get this right. Therefore, your only
real job is to pre-sell your customers and get them onto Amazon.com and
let Amazon do the final sales for you!
The amazing thing is that we can benefit because every sale made within
24 hours to a customer that we have sent to Amazon is credited to us! We
are then awarded commissions on everything they bought within the
24 hour time period. In effect, that means that we can have websites selling
lawnmowers and end up selling a digital camera also. And we get the
commission for both!
Isn’t that worth knowing? And doing?
There are endless lists of different products available through Amazon.
In fact, it will astound you to know the total number of different products
available through Amazon. I’m still finding NEW products today after
several years of selling on Amazon! And the number grows daily. Check it
out below.
AMAZON AFFILIATES
If you become an Amazon Affiliate, you can make a lot of money simply by
sending buyers to Amazon.com through one of your own websites. With a
little forethought and work, the sooner you do this, the sooner you will
benefit from commissions. Your aim as an Amazon Affiliate is to channel
buying customers through one of your websites to Amazon with their
credit card out and ready to buy.
Amazon have different percentage rates that they pay their Affiliates.
Typically, the rate increases as the number of products you sell increases in
each given month. This rate is reset at the beginning of a new month.
Another great thing to remember is that with Amazon your commissions
for what you sell increase as you sell more items within a month, and this is
for everything you sold within the month, not just for the items you sold
above the commission threshold. Can you begin to see how you can benefit
from this?
SIGN UP TO AMAZON - NOW!
To find the Amazon Affiliate programme, look to the very bottom of the
Amazon home page for the link “Become an Affiliate”, shown next:
Once you follow the links, you will be taken to their Affiliate signup page.
To sign up as an Amazon Affiliate is very easy. To make it super easy, go
here and sign up to their Affiliate programme right away:
Follow their prompts for information, enter the information required and
join Amazon.
Many worry about joining Amazon associates without a website. I would
recommend that you first build your website without any links and then
apply to Amazon. They will approve it pretty much as a matter of course.
So if you don’t already have a website and wish to become an Amazon
Affiliate, go and build your first website with some products that you have
selected to promote. Once approved as an Affiliate, you can add your
affiliate links.
First, we will simply head over to Amazon and get a feel for browsing the
site and have a general overview of how get stuck into Amazon.com

Learn from my past mistakes!
When I first got into Amazon I didn’t set my sights high enough because,
simply, I had the wrong mindset. At that time, I was promoting products
that had values as low as $12 and doing so much work for little reward.
Go for higher value tickets of $100 and above.
REALISATION TIME – OR LIGHT BULB MOMENT!
Once I realised when people can be in a buying mode for any
product online, no matter the cost, I upped my stakes and went
after the higher ticket items.

You see, most people look for product reviews before they buy. You and
I do that as well. We’re looking for reassurance, just before we pay. We’re
ready with credit card in hand, so to speak, and money isn’t always the
issue.
If customers are pre-sold at that stage, we just need to be in front of them
with our reviews. No matter the price. Therefore, don’t limit yourself from
the outset, or even do all this work for a measly $2-$3, when it’s as easy to
make $20-$30 per sale selling $300 -$400 ticket price items at 6%
commission.
PRODUCT SELECTION CRITERIA
There are many different things to consider when looking for products to
sell/promote, and I want you to ask yourself the following questions and
follow these 10 easy steps, which are summarised first to give you an
overview:
1 IS THE PRODUCT ALREADY SELLING ON AMAZON?
2 DOES THE PRODUCT HAVE 5+ REVIEWS?
3 DOES IT MEET THE 3- STAR RULE?
4 IS THE PRODUCT ABOVE $100?
5 ARE THERE OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCTS AVAILABLE (MINIMUM OF 5)?
6 IS THE PRODUCT SEASONAL?
7 WHERE DO I SEARCH FOR IDEAS?
8 HOW DO I DIG DEEPER?
9 IS THE PRODUCT STILL IN FASHION?
10 IS IT WORTH MY TIME AND EFFORT?

Now, let’s consider carefully each one in turn:
1 IS THE PRODUCT ALREADY SELLING ON AMAZON?
We need to ascertain that the products we’re looking at are actually selling
on Amazon. We need to be able to gauge this because it is crucial to our
business in the first instance. If we select a product that is out-dated or not
selling, that is a waste of time and effort.
A way to see what is selling well on Amazon is to let Amazon tell us. Yes,
that’s right! Amazon actually tell us what their best selling products are.
Example
Pick a general product you’re interested in and enter this as a search term.
For our example, we will choose “weight lifting equipment”.
Then we need to choose a department to enable sorting, i.e. Sports &
Outdoors.
Once results are returned to us, we can sort our product by “bestselling”:
We can also go to today’s deals, or gift ideas:
In fact, simply by just browsing around on Amazon.com we will find great
products to consider for our websites.
2 DOES THE PRODUCT HAVE A MINIMUM OF 5+ REVIEWS?
OK, once we’ve settled on a product that we would like to promote, we
need to check if it’s being sold on Amazon and if it has over 5 reviews. It is
best not to choose a main product that has less than 5 reviews. Even ten
reviews is low for our main product that we want to promote.
Why consider the reviews?
The reviews are letting us see if there is plenty of buzz around this product.
We will be considering reviews later as we progress through this report.
However, for now, we just want to make sure there are plenty of people
buying the product and then returning to review the product.
3 DOES IT MEET THE 3-STAR RULE?
When I’m promoting a product, I always ensure that my main product has
no less than three stars. From experience, we don’t want to sell a product
that has two stars or fewer as our main product. If the reviews are poor,
then it will be hard to convince people to part with their hard earned cash.
It’s as simple as that!
For your main product, therefore, always remember to pick out products
with at least three starts, if not four and above.
4 IS THE PRODUCT ABOVE $100?
We need to consider the price that the product sells for. If the product is a
$10 product, do you think we’re going to be covering costs for our efforts,
let alone our running costs?
Look for products with a minimum of around $100. At a commission rate of
6% you will then receive anything from $6 upwards. You don’t want to
work for any less than this, so look for products over and above the $100
mark.
5 ARE THERE OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCTS AVAILABLE (MINIMUM OF 5)?
Once we’ve found a product that is in demand and has good reviews in the
right price range, it’s time to look towards building our review site out and
providing alternative products that the searchers may also be interested in.
That way, we can have closely matched products and do reviews of them
also.
In some instances, customers may arrive at our site for one particular item
and end up buying a higher ticket item because we had a fantastic review
on our website that sold them on this instead! Isn’t that worth knowing?
Put yourself in the place of a customer.
So, look to have a minimum of items that fit as closely as possible to your
selection criteria and you will have the basis of a very successful niche
review site in your hands.
6 IS THE PRODUCT SEASONAL?
We need to consider the product we intend to sell. Is the product seasonal?
Whilst I’m not saying avoid seasonal products, what I am saying is that
there’s no point in selling snow shovels in the height of summer.
So consider if it’s seasonal and either time the launch of your website or
build and rank it in anticipation of the sales when the time arrives for your
product to be back in demand.
If you consider seasonality, then you will not be disappointed and
you will understand the reasons why you’re not selling well when
you launch your snow shovel website in July and don’t get any sales.
7 WHERE DO I SEARCH FOR IDEAS?
Amazon.com is an amazing website for stumbling upon items as you do a
simple search or browse through their categories. So always use Amazon’s
site for gathering product ideas. You will find the gems in there.

You can, of course, do research and gather ideas from other places, then
check to see if Amazon is selling these items (normally, they do). Then look
to see if they fit our criteria.
Places we can visit for further information and ideas might be:
EBay
EBay Pulse
Wal-Mart
Overstock.com
Shopping.com(Categories)
I’m sure there are many more places to check to help you to look, choose
and gather your product selection ideas. We can even look around our
everyday lives for inspiration. There is so much that we can promote on
our Amazon sites. Just go and gather those great ideas!
8 DIG DEEPER!
To dig deeper, become familiar with the Amazon.com website. Get to know
it inside out. Become comfortable in searching and navigating your way
around to understand and make full use of all its features. In doing this,
you can find sub-niches within niches. Honestly, you should spend the time
to become fully acquainted with the Amazon website and all of its
categories, menus and methods of searching. It is an excellent, easy way to
earn regular money … and long into the future. If you become a serious
Affiliate for Amazon.com, then you will want to spend a lot of time on the
Amazon website.

Amazon make it easy to find products to fit the criteria and they give you
more advanced ways of narrowing your search to your factors. If you look
to the left hand side bar once the product pages are returned, you will be
able to see - as shown in the next screenshot – that there are ways to filter
results by manufacturer, price, reviews and more. Get using the methods
that Amazon actually give you to find those great products.
I still come across items today that I wasn’t aware of on Amazon or ones
that I simply hadn’t noticed before. It might be the case that they are only
new onto the market or even that they’ve only recently come into demand.
Or it could be that I just didn’t dig deep enough into Amazon’s website
when I was doing my research.
9 IS IT WORTH MY TIME AND EFFORT?
Once we’ve selected our products, we need to go over the above criteria
once more to ensure that they are all within our rules, as outlined. If we’re
happy at this stage, then we need to see if our time is worth the effort to
build a site. There’s no point in selecting a product to promote if people are
not actively looking for them, so don’t waste your precious time.
Following on from the “weight lifting benches” example, we need to check
potential traffic for weight lifting benches.
To do this, we go off to Google and search for “Google adwords keyword
tool”. Once we’re there, we can enter our search term and fill out the
keyword we’re searching as well as the anti-spam question and hit enter.
A set of results is returned to us, and we can check the box telling the tool
to ensure we are returned with only the exact match searches for our
keywords:
Once we’ve done this, we will have our results in exact monthly searches as
shown in the next screenshot:
As you see here, the term “weight lifting benches” gets around 8,100 exact
searches a month, which is an average of 270 per day!
Of course, you will want to dig further down into your keyword research to
find the golden keywords you are searching for. If you consider the many
variants shown in the above example, you will clearly see there’s quite a bit
of traffic in the weight lifting benches niche. However, this is just telling you
that there’s traffic for the general niche we’re thinking about and it’s worth
digging further to find the buying keywords that we wish to pursue.
You need always to look for your main product to have an average of 1,000
minimum per month - the more the better. Only in circumstances where
I have a super buying keyword and product will I invest the time for a
lower number of search terms.
10 IS THE PRODUCT STILL IN FASHION?
There’s no point in building a website if the product has been superseded
or is going to be soon. Likewise, it’s pointless to build a website around a
product that is now out of fashion. You should always look for news around
your product. It might be discontinued, superseded, not supported any
more or simply last year’s trend. Look at news and search trends for the
products you’re considering promoting in all cases before you spend hours,
and possibly money, to build your websites.
To avoid this, do a simple search on Google news and read for a bit. This
way you will see if there’s anything newsworthy. You can also look at the
trends provided by the Google keyword research tool. To do this, you need
to hover over the term you are interested in and look for the magnifying
glass icon and select this:
This will take you to a page where you can see your search term as a graph
as well as some other data. In our graph, you can see the search demand
over time for weight lifting bench went up and down slightly; however, in
the main, it held steady over the year.
If your product is becoming out-dated, then you will see the searches
dropping off in the trend graph from Google insights and this should have
you considering the reasons for the decline in interest and that it might be
an indicator that you have picked something that is no longer popular.
IN SUMMARY
There you have it! Ten easy steps to get started as an Amazon Affiliate and
begin to earn commissions through promotions on your website/s.
Hopefully, as you can now see from this report, Amazon.com is a serious
contender for our attention when we’re looking to set ourselves up online
in the field of selling physical products as Affiliates. With Amazon.com, they
have so much to recommend themselves that we simply must stop and take
notice. Amazon.com are a powerhouse when it comes to physical products
being sold online, and as an Affiliate we would be mad to overlook them as
part of our business strategy.

There are, however, other steps you will have to undertake for your
Amazon career. I have only shown you easy tips for picking out products
that will hopefully make you money. You will need to know other aspects of
the affiliate world, such as website creation and promotion. If you can also
master these, then you will be able to make the amounts from your online
endeavours that you once only dreamt about.

NOW YOU KNOW THIS
Now that you know this and can pick out THE products you’re going to
promote, you will need to go off and select a domain name for your website.
Look to have your niche term included within the domain name.
Examples of this would be www.buyweightsbench.com and
www.weightsbenchreviews.com.
In doing this, you also bring a bit of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) into
your website as you might have the keyword within the domain name.

This report is based on my personal user experience and learning over the years that I have been online. I use these very exact same techniques for each and every product-orientated website I’m involved with today. My name is Chris Cole and I’m from Northern Ireland, part of the UK. I’ve been marketing online for over 2 years now and I’ve invested a lot of time immersed in understanding Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and ranking product sites because I’ve always known this is where many fail online. They simply don’t understand fully the concept of SEO. Further – and more to the point in this report - I’ve noticed that many don’t know how to select their first products from Amazon and - because of this - they make mistakes in promoting the wrong items for their websites. WHAT I SHARE IN THIS REPORT I’m sharing with you how to check Amazon to select winning products for your website in ten easy steps. Finding a suitable product is one of the very first things you need to do - even before you buy your domain name - so if you get this right, you’re off to a great start in your Amazon Affiliate career!

People just trust Amazon and will happily buy via Amazon because they know they have guarantees and will get superb customer support. If you have ANY issues, then Amazon will sort them promptly. Simply put, Amazon’s customer services and brand is completely trusted by all who shop online. Another reason is that people can’t help themselves when they visit the Amazon website! They arrive looking for a drill and leave with both the drill and 4 other products, either related or not. Amazon are masters at upsells. With their subtle selling they entice people to spend more than they intended, even to the point where customers leave feeling very happy with their purchases from Amazon.com! You’ll see from screenshots provided in this report examples of the upselling tactics Amazon use to great effect, and this is part of the reason that they are such a successful online business. Have you seen anything
  • 5. like this below before? It is very common throughout the Amazon.com website. Some of the tactics they employ is to use trigger lines like: “Customers who bought this product also bought” and terms like “frequently bought together” will also appear. Even, “what do customers ultimately buy after viewing this item”? So, Amazon.com spend much time and effort in upselling to their customers when they visit their site. They have spent years perfecting their methods, not to mention the money invested to get this right. Therefore, your only real job is to pre-sell your customers and get them onto Amazon.com and let Amazon do the final sales for you!
  • 6. The amazing thing is that we can benefit because every sale made within 24 hours to a customer that we have sent to Amazon is credited to us! We are then awarded commissions on everything they bought within the 24 hour time period. In effect, that means that we can have websites selling lawnmowers and end up selling a digital camera also. And we get the commission for both! Isn’t that worth knowing? And doing? There are endless lists of different products available through Amazon. In fact, it will astound you to know the total number of different products available through Amazon. I’m still finding NEW products today after several years of selling on Amazon! And the number grows daily. Check it out below.
  • 7. AMAZON AFFILIATES If you become an Amazon Affiliate, you can make a lot of money simply by sending buyers to Amazon.com through one of your own websites. With a little forethought and work, the sooner you do this, the sooner you will benefit from commissions. Your aim as an Amazon Affiliate is to channel buying customers through one of your websites to Amazon with their credit card out and ready to buy. Amazon have different percentage rates that they pay their Affiliates. Typically, the rate increases as the number of products you sell increases in each given month. This rate is reset at the beginning of a new month. Another great thing to remember is that with Amazon your commissions for what you sell increase as you sell more items within a month, and this is for everything you sold within the month, not just for the items you sold above the commission threshold. Can you begin to see how you can benefit from this? SIGN UP TO AMAZON - NOW! To find the Amazon Affiliate programme, look to the very bottom of the Amazon home page for the link “Become an Affiliate”, shown next: Once you follow the links, you will be taken to their Affiliate signup page. To sign up as an Amazon Affiliate is very easy. To make it super easy, go here and sign up to their Affiliate programme right away:
  • 8. Follow their prompts for information, enter the information required and join Amazon. Many worry about joining Amazon associates without a website. I would recommend that you first build your website without any links and then apply to Amazon. They will approve it pretty much as a matter of course. So if you don’t already have a website and wish to become an Amazon Affiliate, go and build your first website with some products that you have selected to promote. Once approved as an Affiliate, you can add your affiliate links. First, we will simply head over to Amazon and get a feel for browsing the site and have a general overview of how get stuck into Amazon.com

At that time, I was promoting products that had values as low as $12 and doing so much work for little reward. Go for higher value tickets of $100 and above. REALISATION TIME – OR LIGHT BULB MOMENT!

Once I realised when people can be in a buying mode for any product online, no matter the cost, I upped my stakes and went after the higher ticket items. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf0GNamrGWI You see, most people look for product reviews before they buy. You and I do that as well. We’re looking for reassurance, just before we pay. We’re ready with credit card in hand, so to speak, and money isn’t always the issue. If customers are pre-sold at that stage, we just need to be in front of them with our reviews. No matter the price. Therefore, don’t limit yourself from the outset, or even do all this work for a measly $2-$3, when it’s as easy to make $20-$30 per sale selling $300 -$400 ticket price items at 6% commission.

PRODUCT SELECTION CRITERIA There are many different things to consider when looking for products to sell/promote, and I want you to ask yourself the following questions and follow these 10 easy steps, which are summarised first to give you an overview: 1 IS THE PRODUCT ALREADY SELLING ON AMAZON? 2 DOES THE PRODUCT HAVE 5+ REVIEWS? 3 DOES IT MEET THE 3- STAR RULE? 4 IS THE PRODUCT ABOVE $100? 5 ARE THERE OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCTS AVAILABLE (MINIMUM OF 5)? 6 IS THE PRODUCT SEASONAL? 7 WHERE DO I SEARCH FOR IDEAS? 8 HOW DO I DIG DEEPER? 9 IS THE PRODUCT STILL IN FASHION? 10 IS IT WORTH MY TIME AND EFFORT? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2qamHTXBFI
  • 12. Now, let’s consider carefully each one in turn: 1 IS THE PRODUCT ALREADY SELLING ON AMAZON? We need to ascertain that the products we’re looking at are actually selling on Amazon. We need to be able to gauge this because it is crucial to our business in the first instance. If we select a product that is out-dated or not selling, that is a waste of time and effort. A way to see what is selling well on Amazon is to let Amazon tell us. Yes, that’s right! Amazon actually tell us what their best selling products are. Example Pick a general product you’re interested in and enter this as a search term. For our example, we will choose “weight lifting equipment”. Then we need to choose a department to enable sorting, i.e. Sports & Outdoors. Once results are returned to us, we can sort our product by “bestselling”: We can also go to today’s deals, or gift ideas:
  • 13. In fact, simply by just browsing around on Amazon.com we will find great products to consider for our websites. 2 DOES THE PRODUCT HAVE A MINIMUM OF 5+ REVIEWS? OK, once we’ve settled on a product that we would like to promote, we need to check if it’s being sold on Amazon and if it has over 5 reviews. It is best not to choose a main product that has less than 5 reviews. Even ten reviews is low for our main product that we want to promote. Why consider the reviews? The reviews are letting us see if there is plenty of buzz around this product. We will be considering reviews later as we progress through this report. However, for now, we just want to make sure there are plenty of people buying the product and then returning to review the product. 3 DOES IT MEET THE 3-STAR RULE? When I’m promoting a product, I always ensure that my main product has no less than three stars. From experience, we don’t want to sell a product that has two stars or fewer as our main product. If the reviews are poor, then it will be hard to convince people to part with their hard earned cash. It’s as simple as that! For your main product, therefore, always remember to pick out products with at least three starts, if not four and above. 4 IS THE PRODUCT ABOVE $100? We need to consider the price that the product sells for. If the product is a $10 product, do you think we’re going to be covering costs for our efforts, let alone our running costs? Look for products with a minimum of around $100. At a commission rate of 6% you will then receive anything from $6 upwards. You don’t want to work for any less than this, so look for products over and above the $100 mark.
  • 14. 5 ARE THERE OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCTS AVAILABLE (MINIMUM OF 5)? Once we’ve found a product that is in demand and has good reviews in the right price range, it’s time to look towards building our review site out and providing alternative products that the searchers may also be interested in. That way, we can have closely matched products and do reviews of them also. In some instances, customers may arrive at our site for one particular item and end up buying a higher ticket item because we had a fantastic review on our website that sold them on this instead! Isn’t that worth knowing? Put yourself in the place of a customer. So, look to have a minimum of items that fit as closely as possible to your selection criteria and you will have the basis of a very successful niche review site in your hands. 6 IS THE PRODUCT SEASONAL? We need to consider the product we intend to sell. Is the product seasonal? Whilst I’m not saying avoid seasonal products, what I am saying is that there’s no point in selling snow shovels in the height of summer. So consider if it’s seasonal and either time the launch of your website or build and rank it in anticipation of the sales when the time arrives for your product to be back in demand. If you consider seasonality, then you will not be disappointed and you will understand the reasons why you’re not selling well when you launch your snow shovel website in July and don’t get any sales.
  • 15. 7 WHERE DO I SEARCH FOR IDEAS? Amazon.com is an amazing website for stumbling upon items as you do a simple search or browse through their categories. So always use Amazon’s site for gathering product ideas. You will find the gems in there. Other resources http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDhPvapsgvg You can, of course, do research and gather ideas from other places, then check to see if Amazon is selling these items (normally, they do). Then look to see if they fit our criteria. Places we can visit for further information and ideas might be:
  • 18. Shopping.com(Categories) I’m sure there are many more places to check to help you to look, choose and gather your product selection ideas. We can even look around our everyday lives for inspiration. There is so much that we can promote on our Amazon sites. Just go and gather those great ideas! 8 DIG DEEPER! To dig deeper, become familiar with the Amazon.com website. Get to know it inside out. Become comfortable in searching and navigating your way around to understand and make full use of all its features. In doing this, you can find sub-niches within niches. Honestly, you should spend the time to become fully acquainted with the Amazon website and all of its categories, menus and methods of searching. It is an excellent, easy way to earn regular money … and long into the future. If you become a serious Affiliate for Amazon.com, then you will want to spend a lot of time on the Amazon website.

If you look to the left hand side bar once the product pages are returned, you will be able to see - as shown in the next screenshot – that there are ways to filter results by manufacturer, price, reviews and more. Get using the methods that Amazon actually give you to find those great products.
  • 20. I still come across items today that I wasn’t aware of on Amazon or ones that I simply hadn’t noticed before. It might be the case that they are only new onto the market or even that they’ve only recently come into demand. Or it could be that I just didn’t dig deep enough into Amazon’s website when I was doing my research. 9 IS IT WORTH MY TIME AND EFFORT? Once we’ve selected our products, we need to go over the above criteria once more to ensure that they are all within our rules, as outlined. If we’re happy at this stage, then we need to see if our time is worth the effort to build a site. There’s no point in selecting a product to promote if people are not actively looking for them, so don’t waste your precious time.
  • 21. Following on from the “weight lifting benches” example, we need to check potential traffic for weight lifting benches. To do this, we go off to Google and search for “Google adwords keyword tool”. Once we’re there, we can enter our search term and fill out the keyword we’re searching as well as the anti-spam question and hit enter. A set of results is returned to us, and we can check the box telling the tool to ensure we are returned with only the exact match searches for our keywords: Once we’ve done this, we will have our results in exact monthly searches as shown in the next screenshot: As you see here, the term “weight lifting benches” gets around 8,100 exact searches a month, which is an average of 270 per day!
  • 22. Of course, you will want to dig further down into your keyword research to find the golden keywords you are searching for. If you consider the many variants shown in the above example, you will clearly see there’s quite a bit of traffic in the weight lifting benches niche. However, this is just telling you that there’s traffic for the general niche we’re thinking about and it’s worth digging further to find the buying keywords that we wish to pursue. You need always to look for your main product to have an average of 1,000 minimum per month - the more the better. Only in circumstances where I have a super buying keyword and product will I invest the time for a lower number of search terms. 10 IS THE PRODUCT STILL IN FASHION? There’s no point in building a website if the product has been superseded or is going to be soon. Likewise, it’s pointless to build a website around a product that is now out of fashion. You should always look for news around your product. It might be discontinued, superseded, not supported any more or simply last year’s trend. Look at news and search trends for the products you’re considering promoting in all cases before you spend hours, and possibly money, to build your websites. To avoid this, do a simple search on Google news and read for a bit. This way you will see if there’s anything newsworthy. You can also look at the trends provided by the Google keyword research tool. To do this, you need to hover over the term you are interested in and look for the magnifying glass icon and select this:
  • 23. This will take you to a page where you can see your search term as a graph as well as some other data. In our graph, you can see the search demand over time for weight lifting bench went up and down slightly; however, in the main, it held steady over the year. If your product is becoming out-dated, then you will see the searches dropping off in the trend graph from Google insights and this should have you considering the reasons for the decline in interest and that it might be an indicator that you have picked something that is no longer popular.
  • 24. IN SUMMARY There you have it! Ten easy steps to get started as an Amazon Affiliate and begin to earn commissions through promotions on your website/s. Hopefully, as you can now see from this report, Amazon.com is a serious contender for our attention when we’re looking to set ourselves up online in the field of selling physical products as Affiliates. With Amazon.com, they have so much to recommend themselves that we simply must stop and take notice. Amazon.com are a powerhouse when it comes to physical products being sold online, and as an Affiliate we would be mad to overlook them as part of our business strategy.
