My Tools
As you look around and examine board displays, use the activity forms provided for
you to document your observations.
Read the following statements carefully before you observe.
1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays do
you see?
2. Where are the display boards found? Are they in places where target viewers can see
them?
3. What are the displays about? What images and colors do you see? How are the pieces
of information arranged?
4. What materials were used in making the displays? Are borders used?
5. Do you notice some errors? (misspelled words, grammar inconsistencies and the
like)
6. Are the messages clear and easily understood?
7. You may choose to take a photo of the display board (if allowed).
OBSERVATION REPORT
Name of the School Observed: JH Cerilles State College Dumingag Campus
Location of the School: Caridad, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur
Date of Visit: February 26, 2016
In our school, there are 8 board displays that can be seen. They are found in places
where viewers can see them easily, some of which are found at the right side of the gate.
Most of the theme displayed is about the month of February. That is why most of the
images are related to love. Of course, information is arranged in a way that viewers can
understand them easily.
The common materials found on the display boards are Cartolina, printed bond
papers, Styrofoam, recycled materials, plastic covers and many more. They are used to
beautify and convey the messages of the display boards to the viewers.
Based on my observation, I did not noticed errors on the display boards. One reason
is that; these boards are carefully examined by its makers. Maybe if there are errors,
these are not noticeable by the viewers. Also in connection with less or no errors,
messages were clear and easily understood by students and teachers or any viewers of
the display boards.

My Analysis
1. Did the board display design reflect the likes/ interest audience? Why? Why not?
Yes, the board display design reflects to the likes and interests of its target
audience. One proof is the Love Cycle which catches the eyes of the viewers. The
different quotes posted also reflect on the life of students and their interests.
2. Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to understand? Why?
Why not?
Yes, the language used were clear and simple. It is easy to understood by the
viewers. These languages are mostly English but some are Tagalog/Filipino. Also,
there are other foreign languages posted like the translation of “I Love You” but it
is easily understood by the help of the English translation right next to it.
3. What do you think was the purpose of the board display? Was it effective? Why?
Why not?
For me, the purpose of the board display is mainly to entertain and inform
viewers about the month of February. In my opinion, it was effective but not much.
Why? It is because the display board show less educational information. I could say
that it is form over content. On the other hand, the saying and the quotes about life
and love will also guide students in their pursuit in life.
4. What suggestions can you make?
For the enhancement of the display board, I would like to suggest a more
legibility on the displayed words. And also, I would like to suggest educational
related information to be posted on the board.
Based on your suggestions, propose and enhanced version of the display
board. Use the form below.
MY PROPOSED BOARD DISPLAY
Theme: Nature
Board Title: Save Mother Earth
Rationale: Motivational
(Purpose)
The viewers/readers will be motivated to do good things and to save and
protect the nature.
Objectives:
Viewers/Readers will be able to:
a. See the effect of their wrong doings;
b. Pattern their activities to the goodness portrayed on the display board; and
c. Value Mother Earth as their precious home.
Best Features of my proposed bulletin enhancement:
Two sides of the earth: the undestroyed side and the damage one.
Content resources (Name each needed resource and give each a brief description):
 Motivational quotes regarding nature – these picture out the real concept about
nature
 Facts about nature – includes the before and after of our mother earth
 Mother earth image – consists of two sides: destroyed and the better side of the
earth
Materials for aesthetic enhancement:
 Cartolina
 Pictures/printed bond papers
 Colored Materials
 Styrofoam
 Recycled/reuse materials
 Plastic cover
My Reflections
1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to come up with effective board
displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.
The following are the skills needed to come up with an effectiveboard displays:
1. Creativity – in order to attain my purpose which is to inform and entertain viewers
2. Fairness – a designer should touch the content and the form of his/her display. The
content and the form should be balanced.
3. Patience – designing needs patience in order that errors will be minimized or avoided
4. Imaginative mind – to build an output that catches the eyes of the viewers
5. Time Management Skills – to finish the board display on time
2. Which of the skills you named in number 1 do you already have? Recall your past
experiences in making board displays. How do you practice these skills?
Among the skills, I already have fairness and patience. Looking back tomy past
experiences in making board displays, I am assigned to look for facts. I considered
a fair look to content and to the form of our desired display board. I also developed
patience especially in committing several mistakes.
3. Which skills do you still need to develop? What concrete steps will you take on
how you can improve on or acquire these skills?
Some of the skills that I need to develop are creativity and an imaginative
mind. To improve or acquire these skills, I will practice to do it. I will also browse the
internet for help.
My Portfolio
Based on your suggestions, make your own board display lay-out. You may present
your output through any of these:
 A hand-made drawing or lay-out
 An electronic (computer) drawing/illustration or layout
 A collage

  • 2. My Tools As you look around and examine board displays, use the activity forms provided for you to document your observations. Read the following statements carefully before you observe. 1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays do you see? 2. Where are the display boards found? Are they in places where target viewers can see them? 3. What are the displays about? What images and colors do you see? How are the pieces of information arranged? 4. What materials were used in making the displays? Are borders used? 5. Do you notice some errors? (misspelled words, grammar inconsistencies and the like) 6. Are the messages clear and easily understood? 7. You may choose to take a photo of the display board (if allowed). OBSERVATION REPORT Name of the School Observed: JH Cerilles State College Dumingag Campus Location of the School: Caridad, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur Date of Visit: February 26, 2016 In our school, there are 8 board displays that can be seen. They are found in places where viewers can see them easily, some of which are found at the right side of the gate. Most of the theme displayed is about the month of February. That is why most of the images are related to love. Of course, information is arranged in a way that viewers can understand them easily. The common materials found on the display boards are Cartolina, printed bond papers, Styrofoam, recycled materials, plastic covers and many more. They are used to beautify and convey the messages of the display boards to the viewers. Based on my observation, I did not noticed errors on the display boards. One reason is that; these boards are carefully examined by its makers. Maybe if there are errors, these are not noticeable by the viewers. Also in connection with less or no errors, messages were clear and easily understood by students and teachers or any viewers of the display boards. An Observation Guide for BOARD DISPLAYS

  • 4. AN EVALUATION REPORT OF A BULLETIN BOARD Bulletin Board Evaluated by: Jundel L. Deliman Location: Near the gate; before the building of the College of Education Brief Description of Bulletin Board: The bulletin board portrays God’s Eternal Love. It also contains quotes about love and other related images. EVALUATION Strengths Weaknesses Description of the Bulletin Board lay-out It is neat and well- organized. It is also durable. Some of the letters are not legible in a distance. Evaluation of education of educational content and other aspects: The bulletin board portrays or shows various sayings about life and the love of God. The display board shows less educational information. Recommendation or Suggestion for Improvement: Make the letters a little bigger and legible. Put some information like latest news and educational related information. Signature of Evaluator over Printed Name: ____________________________ JUNDEL L. DELIMAN
  • 5. My Analysis 1. Did the board display design reflect the likes/ interest audience? Why? Why not? Yes, the board display design reflects to the likes and interests of its target audience. One proof is the Love Cycle which catches the eyes of the viewers. The different quotes posted also reflect on the life of students and their interests. 2. Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to understand? Why? Why not? Yes, the language used were clear and simple. It is easy to understood by the viewers. These languages are mostly English but some are Tagalog/Filipino. Also, there are other foreign languages posted like the translation of “I Love You” but it is easily understood by the help of the English translation right next to it. 3. What do you think was the purpose of the board display? Was it effective? Why? Why not? For me, the purpose of the board display is mainly to entertain and inform viewers about the month of February. In my opinion, it was effective but not much. Why? It is because the display board show less educational information. I could say that it is form over content. On the other hand, the saying and the quotes about life and love will also guide students in their pursuit in life. 4. What suggestions can you make? For the enhancement of the display board, I would like to suggest a more legibility on the displayed words. And also, I would like to suggest educational related information to be posted on the board.
  • 6. Based on your suggestions, propose and enhanced version of the display board. Use the form below. MY PROPOSED BOARD DISPLAY Theme: Nature Board Title: Save Mother Earth Rationale: Motivational (Purpose) The viewers/readers will be motivated to do good things and to save and protect the nature. Objectives: Viewers/Readers will be able to: a. See the effect of their wrong doings; b. Pattern their activities to the goodness portrayed on the display board; and c. Value Mother Earth as their precious home. Best Features of my proposed bulletin enhancement: Two sides of the earth: the undestroyed side and the damage one. Content resources (Name each needed resource and give each a brief description):  Motivational quotes regarding nature – these picture out the real concept about nature  Facts about nature – includes the before and after of our mother earth  Mother earth image – consists of two sides: destroyed and the better side of the earth Materials for aesthetic enhancement:  Cartolina  Pictures/printed bond papers  Colored Materials  Styrofoam  Recycled/reuse materials  Plastic cover
  • 7. My Reflections 1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to come up with effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed. The following are the skills needed to come up with an effectiveboard displays: 1. Creativity – in order to attain my purpose which is to inform and entertain viewers 2. Fairness – a designer should touch the content and the form of his/her display. The content and the form should be balanced. 3. Patience – designing needs patience in order that errors will be minimized or avoided 4. Imaginative mind – to build an output that catches the eyes of the viewers 5. Time Management Skills – to finish the board display on time 2. Which of the skills you named in number 1 do you already have? Recall your past experiences in making board displays. How do you practice these skills? Among the skills, I already have fairness and patience. Looking back tomy past experiences in making board displays, I am assigned to look for facts. I considered a fair look to content and to the form of our desired display board. I also developed patience especially in committing several mistakes. 3. Which skills do you still need to develop? What concrete steps will you take on how you can improve on or acquire these skills? Some of the skills that I need to develop are creativity and an imaginative mind. To improve or acquire these skills, I will practice to do it. I will also browse the internet for help.
  • 8. My Portfolio Based on your suggestions, make your own board display lay-out. You may present your output through any of these:  A hand-made drawing or lay-out  An electronic (computer) drawing/illustration or layout  A collage
