• Who – the speaker and the audience
• What – The topic
• Where – Setting/ Location of speech , a formal
setting demands a formal speech, an informal
setting demands an informal speech
• Why – Reason the speech is being delivered
3. Interviewing
• Interview the speaker beforehand. Try to
know him, observe him. Get to know his
stance on the topic, his ideas, etc.
• Discuss the object i.e. the purpose of the
speech with the speaker. What does the
speaker expect the audience to do after the
speech. What does the speaker think should
be the main points.
4. Researching
• Read about the subject thoroughly before
writing the speech. It means gong through all
the available material, news, articles etc. Also
go through previous speeches by the speaker
to know his style.
• Think on the topic. Get other experts point of
view on the subject.
5. Organization and writing
• Grab the audience with the introduction, and
hold their interest. You may want to try a little
humor. Tell the audience the purpose of the
speech. Make it easy for the audience to grasp
the point. Conclude by telling the audience
what to do regarding the subject.
