Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutesKey Message: Welcome and Introduction; there’s a revolution in business—we’re responding with extreme innovationThis is a time of extreme innovation for Microsoft. We delivered Bing, we delivered Windows 7, we delivered Exchange 2010, and now we are delivering the newest version of our flagship product, Office. But as business productivity has evolved, so has Microsoft. Today we’re going to talk about our newest versions of productivity applications: Office, SharePoint, Project, and Visio.Combined with the recent release of Exchange 2010, we are able to bring to you the best and most innovative productivity tools on the market. This is our “wave” approach – an approach that allows for consideration of optimum scenarios across clients, servers, and services. The past 18 months have been a time of change, of evolution. Business has changed. The economy has changed. Politics have changed. And Microsoft products have changed to help you meet those evolving needs. The time of evolution leads us to a revolution. Let’s talk about how.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutesKey Message: Managing multiple products and applications to run business processes often leads to a highly complex IT environment.Every day we talk with customers about the challenges they’re facing. And whether they’re business decision makers or technical decision makers, they’re all concerned with common issues. Here are a few examples of the questions and concerns we’re seeing: Social Networking – Everyone’s doing it, but how can we use it to drive business results? Collaboration – How do we get our teams to work better and more efficiently together? Compliance – How do we meet the increasing demands of being compliant? E-mail – It’s become a commodity. How do we still get the value without having the overhead to manage? Content Management – The amount of information we have now doubles every 5 years. How can software help us manage that? Business Intelligence – How do we get the deep insight we need to make more profitable business decisions? Cloud computing – Everyone’s talking about it, but do we really want to release control of that much of our company’s IP?
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutesKey Message: Engaging multiple vendors to run business processes leads to complexity and potential interoperability and usability issues. You likely face a lot of these same issues and concerns, and like many businesses, you’ve probably gone out and bought solutions from a slew of vendors to help solve these problems. We commonly hear customers say:“I work with several vendors, write a ton of checks every year, have to deploy all of these products, teach my people how to use them, and then I sit back and wait for the highly-promised rewards to rain down on me.”But they don’t come…And I have to manage all of these products…And they are cumbersome so people don’t use them…And none of them talk to each other so it’s really inefficient… AND I have to cut my budget this year.Wouldn’t it be great if you could solve a lot of these issues by using a suite of products that can be purchased once from one vendor and deployed to users who are already familiar with how to use them?
Speaker GuidanceTime: 6-8 minutesKey Message: Office delivers the best productivity experience ever by enabling users to get work done on their PC, phone, or browser. One of the most exciting scenarios we bring to life in Office 2010 is the ability to enable people to get work done on their PC, phone, or browser. We’ve talked about the revolution that’s been happening in the business world, and we’ve been no less revolutionary in our vision of how we build software. Mobility (and the proliferation of mobile workers) is one of the biggest shifts to happen in the workplace in the last 5 years. One of the shining examples of innovation to come to this release of Office is the PC, phone, and browser experience. Now users are able to access important work information whether they’re sitting in the office at their fully functional PC, on the road using a mobile device, or at an internet kiosk with only a browser available. Research of real-world usage and management scenarios has helped us to deliver experiences that enable users to do what they need to get done, as quickly and effortlessly as possible across the three primary methods they use for accessing information. On the PC: Microsoft Office rich client is the heart of work experience for most information workers, the place where they can do their best work. It’s highly responsive, customizable to suit the way an individual likes to work, and enabling them to work online or offline. It’s the foundation for a rich ecosystem of partners that offer nearly endless plug-ins and add-ons to make work easier still. The architecture reflects Microsoft’s long-standing focus on delivering great accessibility options for people who have unique needs. On the Phone: With Office 2010, we have invested in optimizing for mobile devices to help people stay up-to-the minute when they are on the go. Major upgrades in Office Mobile will greatly expand to meet the scenarios that support information workers who need to stay productive wherever they are. Office Mobile applications give users the ability to comment and provide minor edits to documents they’ve been sent, and the changes will be saved back to the source, such as a SharePoint site. Formatting is preserved when the document is re-opened on the rich client even though the Office Client applications have a rather different user interface. And the high fidelity of Office Mobile means that charts, graphs, and images appear on the phone just as on the PC. And you can simply copy/paste among the applications because mobile versions of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote are all available. With a Browser: Office Web Applications are available for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and OneNote. They are designed to extend the familiar Office experience to any machine with a browser for those situations where your users don’t have access to a PC.Here’s how they work: IT configures SharePoint Server to serve SharePoint documents and libraries more securely to the Internet via Office Web Applications, rather like Exchange Server is often configured today to more securely serve e-mail to a browser via Outlook Web Access. From a user experience point of view, you can think of this just like what can be done today on Outlook, Outlook Mobile, and Outlook Web Access. This means that all edits made via the Office Web Application will be reflected when the document is opened on the client, and that all formatting is preserved throughout the “round trip” of editing.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutesKey Message: Reduce content overload, get a choice of deployment options, and streamline communication with the Microsoft Wave approach. With the economic downturn, it’s likely that you have been faced with cutting costs. As we head out of that downturn, the need to drive efficiency and optimize the business is more critical than ever.In this first section, we’ll explore ways to use technology to: Lower complexity with a single collaboration platform to manage content, information, and people. Leverage cloud services to offload routine IT tasks to save time and focus on technology that can drive better impact to the business. Reduce costs across the organization by reducing the need to travel and eliminating third-party solutions.
Speaker GuidanceTime:2-3 minutesKey Message: Reduce information overload and complexity with a single collaboration platform to manage content, information, and people. We’ve all got a lot of information in a lot of places. People are often overwhelmed by the information available—on the Internet, on the corporate intranet, in databases, on laptops and hard drives, and in document files. It can be a problem to weed through all the information available and drive real insight from the complexity. With Microsoft technology, you can help users manage all this content and reduce information overload. Office 2010 is the key to unlocking enterprise capabilities and simplifying content management. By using Office, along with SharePoint and Exchange technologies, you can lower complexity with a single collaboration platform to manage content, information, and people.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutes Key Message: Design your IT environment to have a blend of both on-premises and hosted solutions to deploy the best fit for your needs and budget. In the current economic environment, you need to be able to quickly deploy technology that will fit your needs and budget and provide returns that you can realize immediately. With Microsoft technology, you have a choice in how you deploy: On-Premises deployment with benefits including control and ownership, and deep customization capabilities. Hosted services with benefits including rapid scalability and advanced manageability. Mix of both so your IT staff can truly have the flexibility and control to optimize your organization’s IT portfolio and resources. The power of choice in how to design your environment, and the flexibility to have a blend of both on-premises and hosted scenarios is something that only Microsoft can offer.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutes Key Message: Communicate across different methods through a single click from your inbox. As we discussed earlier, the influx of software, services, and devices to keep us perpetually connected can be overwhelming. We have e-mail to keep us connected to the organization, instant messaging for real time communication, our office phones for business, and our cell phones in case we’re out of the office. Most of our communications are in silos today, disconnected from one another. Phone tag and overflowing inboxes and voice mail accounts are symptoms of the Communications Overload that is so common for many of us. Some issues your users may be facing include: A multitude of messages arriving per day across several devices No fast way of knowing whether other users are available or by which methods A large portion of voice mail messages going unansweredWith our “Wave” solution, users will have the ability to start communication across different methods through a single click from their e-mail inbox. We provide the ability to access different communication modalities within a single application, Outlook. Users can manage their mailboxes with new enhanced tools designed to help organize e-mail, receive voice mail with software-powered preview, see real-time presence information, start and log instant messaging conversations, and schedule conferences for audio and the Web.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutes Key Message: Benefit from recent innovations that drive business value from consumer technology, expedite search to quickly find resources, and provide new ways to access the desktop experience.Optimization is a very important aspect for your business. But as current economic trends are starting to change yet again, the need to drive innovation within your business can help you differentiate yourself. More and more we see our consumer and business lives merging together. IT has to balance the security and general health of the technology environment with the needs and wants of users. In this section we’ll have a look at some of the ways we’re providing innovation by: Providing consumer-influenced features with enterprise reliability and scale. Helping users to locate expertise within the organization. Providing new ways for users to access the desktop experience.
Speaker GuidanceTime:3-4 minutes Key Message: Social computing promotes community building that drive business valueCan social computing really help your business? We’ve witnessed three main driving forces for the tremendous growth of social computing on the Web and now in the enterprise: Broad transparency – the ability to see what other people are doing can often reduce redundancy in efforts. Viral participation –positive reviews via word of mouth have more credibility with users than top-down management enforced summaries about the technology. Low barrier to organize – open tools that are intuitive to use make it easy for users to self organize. When these driving forces come together, it enables community building. Now, people can find out what their peers are working on, easily self-organize with the tools available, and participate in group interactions as much as they want to.This ability to build a sense of community throughout the organization provides three key business values: Discover and Connect with Experts – how do you find the subject matter experts within an organization or among people you have never met in person? Share Tacit Knowledge – how do you transfer intellectual property into something that is tangible and can be consumed by others? What would happen to this useful knowledge if the employee retired/left the company if it wasn’t captured somewhere? Attract Talent – to stay competitive and innovative with the rapid pace of the industry, companies need to provide the right tools for their employees. Gen-Yers or Millenials are accustomed to using social computing as a primary means of collaboration.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutes Key Message: Reduce the time it takes to find the resources to help with a business problem with the people and expertise search feature. If you’ve ever felt like you’re always wasting time looking for someone to help you solve a business problem, you’ll love this next part. The people and expertise search feature can help you reduce the time it takes to find someone to assist with a business problem. For instance, instead of sending an e-mail to your own network or distribution lists to locate a Subject Matter Expert, you can leverage people search to find the expertise. This could mean the difference of finding information in a matter of minutes versus the time spent waiting for a response and verifying that you have the right resource.Just imagine all the time that could be saved from using social computing tools.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutes Key Message: Enable information workers to do what they need to get done, as quickly and effortlessly as possible across delivery modes. We said it before but I’ll reiterate it, our long-term strategy for Microsoft Office is to provide productivity software across multiple delivery modes, effortlessly. There are three key areas of innovation in our “wave” approach: a rich Office client, Office Mobile on mobile devices, and an Office experience in the browser. With the new wave of business productivity technologies, we’re able to provide that today. Office has a long tradition of providing rich desktop experiences. We’re providing new ways to access that experience for user populations that previously may not have been able to use technology due to costs or resources.Office Mobile brings the productivity power of Office to the mobile device. And Office Web Applications are designed to extend the familiar Office experience to any machine with a browser, for those situations where you don’t have access to your PC. They are available for Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote. We’ve also worked to improve access to corporate resources for mobile workers that still need the power of their PC to get a job done. In Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 released last year, DirectAccess technology provides secure access to corporate network file shares, including SharePoint sites, and applications whenever you have an Internet connection. The need for cumbersome VPNs is gone and you’ve just removed a common bottleneck to innovation.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 1 minute Key Message: Get solutions that deliver the deep business insights you need to make more profitable decisions.Innovation leads to growth. But how do you ensure that you’re making the best, most insightful decisions to drive your business forward? In this section we’ll discuss how Microsoft solutions can enable smarter decision-making, drive order from the numbers chaos, and simplify data interaction so your organization can grow efficiently and competitively.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutes Key Message: Empower your people to make smarter decisions using the tools they already use today. Microsoft Business Intelligence in Office 2010 is all about empowering the decision maker and turning them into difference makers. It’s truly about getting BI in the hands of more people by means of the tools and processes that they use today. Excel Services. Collaborative BI is a term that’s being used more and more in the industry. With Office 2010 and SharePoint, users can create spreadsheets on the web and have multiple users collaborate on the same fully-functional, formatting-enabled document. BI gets even more collaborative with the new self-service BI capabilities through PowerPivot as users can create an insightful model and share their findings with their colleagues through Excel Services. Enhanced Dashboards. When it comes to information insight there’s a big difference between seeing a bunch of rows of data and being presented with an intuitive visual model. In Office 2010 there are new chart web parts that enable users at all business levels to create rich-looking dashboards that assemble and present the right information to share across their team. This helps bring context and meaning to the data and allows users to quickly grasp a trend or concept that may impact their daily decisions.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 3-4 minutes Key Message: Get an at-a-glance view of your data to quickly and easily see what drives business performance. As we talked about earlier, we create and capture more new data and information on a daily basis than ever. Wouldn’t it be great if you could turn this mountain of data into the insight that you need to make more informed decisions? And do so in a way that is easy to digest and transform into action? With Office 2010 and the new wave of business productivity tools, you can. Some exciting new features include: Improved visibility. BI in Office 2010 focuses on improving organizational effectiveness. Improved visibility helps individuals align themselves to the key drivers of the organization and enhances how the organization can drive better accountability across strategic, tactical, and operational roles within the organization. The challenge in making pervasive performance management widely available within organizations has often been the prohibitively high cost of dashboard and scorecard solutions. Now with the monitoring and analytic components of PerformancePoint moving into SharePoint, you can take advantage of this tremendous value to add rich performance management capabilities. Guided Analysis. Office 2010 also brings improvements to provide guided analysis to help users understand key drivers and allow for faster reaction and improved decision making.New displays. Additional features include a Silverlight-enabled decomposition tree for hierarchical analysis, new charting controls, and in-depth KPI analysis. In addition, there is deeper interactivity with various chart-types and improved filtering capabilities to gain insight into what matters most.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 2-3 minutes Key Message: Add deeper context and meaning to data in the office or on the go, online or offline. BI in Office 2010 is not only about enabling deeper context and meaning to data, but also about providing ready access to information. Additional features include: Improved data connectivity. New offline capabilities bring relevant data into the Office experience to allow users to be mobile and have the data they need to drive key decisions on the go. Connection to LOB applications. Office 2010 provides improved access to line-of-business data through business connectivity services. And IT will be able to design and implement external data connectivity using SharePoint Designer for easier access and implementation.Real-time display of processes and updates. Data visualization also gets better in Office 2010 with Visio Services, which allows users to connect Visio models to data and share real-time data-driven models in the thin browser experience. Visio is also Silverlight-enabled for richer visualization and interactive graphics.
Speaker GuidanceTime: 30 seconds Key Message: Thank you, reiterate value of Office 2010 waveI’d like to thank you for taking the time to hear about the new wave of Microsoft business productivity technology and the valuable capabilities made possible with Office 2010.We look forward to sharing more business productivity innovations that can help your people work smarter, from anywhere, across PC, browser, and phone. And we’re happy to help you get started! Thanks again for your time!
