3. What Are Cardless Transactions?
• EMV and Contact/Cardless
Transactions
• Quick Response (QR)
Codes
• Contactless and Cardless –
RFID & NFC, HEC
• Why IADs Should be
Considering Contact and
Cardless Options Now
4. ATMIAs Recommendations
• “Cardless ATM transactions are the way of the
future.” – Mike Lee, CEO of ATMIA
• ATMIA encourages the link between mobile apps and
ATMs as this is one of the areas where new
innovations will thrive.
• ATMIA encourages U.S. IADs to look at financial
institutions in other markets for more guidance.
5. Cardless ATM Solutions
• Consumer and Bank
Concerns about Cardless
• Taking the Card out of the
Picture – Banking
• Itautec
• NCR
• Diebold
• Wincor
• Cardless for Off-Premise
ATMs
• Nautilus Hyosung
• Triton
• Genmega / Hantle
6. European Banks Using Cardless Options
• Cardless Trends in Europe
• Introducing Card Present/Contactless Withdrawals –
NCR/ING
• Cardtronics/Ukash in the UK
7. • The first debutant of the cardless transaction was
Natwest promoting this as their emergency cash solution.
A simple process
• Customers calls bank and asked for emergency cash
• Bank verify customer and issue 6 digit PIN to mobile device
• Customer goes to Natwest ATM and collect predefined amount of
cash
• Simple process but on a closed loop system
• Verification against bank data
• Now being launched as a permanent emergency cash
solution
8. • Similar process to Natwest with some major differences
• QR Code required
• NFC optional
• Hardware upgrades can make deployment difficult
• Again this is a closed loop system purely for GE
Moneybank
9. • Banco Sabadell use a mobile app to allow the users to
request money
• User specifies the amount on the app
• A code is sent via text which is entered at the ATM
• The key is simplicity in the transaction which allows users
to feel safe
10. • PKO Bank Polski has also launched a mobile app where
you request money
• A code is again issued to the mobile phone
• The predefined amount is withdrawn
• Again a closed loop system
11. • All of the successful European solutions have common
themes:
• Existing hardware is used
• Mobile apps link the customer with the ATM
• Text messages are issued to the user
• However all pilots also have concerning themes
• Closed loop applications where the money can only be withdrawn
from their bank ATM
• Solutions to be avoided as costly and technically complex
• NFC
• QR codes
12. • The ideal solution is still to be launched and requires
• Multi-Vendor protocol
• Mobile App of website driven
• Simplicity
• Single tokenization or
• Dual tokenization
• User friendly
13. Considerations for Going Cardless
• Following the Bank & Credit Union Lead
• Technology Costs and EMV
• Recommendations:
1. Assess Upgrade Options
2. Focus on Retail
3. Research Emerging Technologies
