the Acropolis Hill
Representation of the Sacred Rock of
the Acropolis of Athens
Destruction
• Many conquerors passed through Athens.
Unfortunately the building of the Acropolis Hill
didn’t escape destructions and looting through
centuries.
• Here is one more representation of the Sacred
Rock of the Acropolis of Athens. One can
realize that it has been a real masterpiece that it
deserved to have been preserved and not subject
to war vandalism. It still keep its energy though.
A simulation of the “Parthenon”
The temple of Goddess Athena
Goddess Athena
Protector of the City of Athens
Athena was the Goddess of
Wisdom and protector of the city
of Athens, beloved child of the
God of Gods Dias-Zeus.
The city was named after her at a
contest between her and God of
Sea, the Poseidon. Athena offered
the best present to the Athenians
(Kecropeans till then), an olive tree.
The Name Contest-The Winner
Fighting against god Poseidon for the name of the city
called at that time Kecropeia after its king. Athena won
the contest and the city was named after her.
Athena Goddess of wisdom-the Owl
• She was the Goddess
of wisdom as she was
born from the head
of Dias. Her symbol
was the owl. Owl is
the symbol for Greek
Educational system
till today.
Athena, goddess of Arts and Letters
Athena and Dias fighting against Giants
The two beautiful
goddesses,
Athena and
Aphrodite.
They fought
for the Trojan
prince Paris’ love.
Aphrodite
goddess of beauty
and love won.
Athena and
Aphrodite
The buildings on the Acropolis Hill are
singnalling the Golden Age of Pericles.
The “Parthenon” Disigned by
Iktinos and Kallikrates
Built during the Golden Age of Pericles
Its style is Doric
Restoration of parts of the temple
The “Propylaia” (entrance)
South side of the Acropolis Rock
East side of the Acropolis Hill. All around
it Plaka, the Old City stretches out.
The Erechtheion
The Erechtheion
It was built to
accommodate the
religious rituals that
the old temple
housed. At the
south-west corner is
supported by six
massive female
statues, the famous
Caryatids.
The Caryatides
The two theaters on the Acropolis slope
• The South slope of the Acropolis has two theaters,
the Odeion of Herodes Atticus and the Theater of
Dionysos. The Theater of Dionysos is not as well
preserved as the other, but it has more significance.
The structure dates back to the fourth century BC
but had many other later remodelings. The
Athenian tradition of theatrical representations first
began at the Theatre of Dionysos. Theater
developed into a religious celebration, in honor of
the god Dionysos
Herodium or
Odeon of Herodes the Atticus
The construction of the theatre
• Ιt was built in 161 AD by the Athenian
magnate Herodes Atticus. Herodes Atticus (ad
101–177) was a distinguished and rich Greek
aristocrat and sophist who served as a Roman
senator. In Latin, his full name was given as
Lucius Vibullius Hipparchus Tiberius Claudius
Atticus Herodes.
Athens View and the Herodium
Dionysus theatre
Representation of the Theater of
Dionysus
• Dionysus was the god of wine. Many theaters
were devoted to him. Athenians' greatest
celebration was “Dionysia”. It was built during
the 4th century BC.

• We HAVE to remember our origin, respect
our ancestors and their achievements, be
taught by their wise script and generally
preserve our national heritage.
• JUST REMEMBERING OF THE PAST
FOR A BETTER FUTURE.
