Delegation of authority refers to the process where a teacher gradually reduces direct supervision and gives students more responsibility for their own learning. For delegation of authority to be successful, students must understand cooperative norms and roles, and teachers must provide clear instructions while limiting hovering. Both students and teachers benefit from this approach, as students gain opportunities to interact with peers and learn collaboration skills, while teachers can better observe students and coach them to a higher level.
