The Leadership Education and Advancement Program (LEAP) is an exclusive
offering designed for international groups seeking leadership skills training in the
United States. This unique program combines classroom time with targeted site
visits based on the participants’ interests and learning objectives.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
To get the most out of LEAP, delegates typically arrive on a Saturday afternoon.
After checking into the hotel, the group meets for an interactive orientation
followed by a welcome dinner.
The program resumes the following morning at 8:00 am. Over the next four
days, classroom teaching starts at that time and concludes at 2:30 pm. Our
classroom activities follow adult learning principles. The program is filled with
“on-your-feet” exercises and interactive discussions. We do not believe in
“death by PowerPoint” or lecturing.
During our week together, LEAP delegates work with a skilled facilitator and
spend their mornings and early afternoons exploring the essential elements of
leading a team:

At 2:45 pm each day, site visits begin. Typically we schedule between two and
five locations each day and conclude with a group dinner.

We choose locations based on the needs of each delegation. All site visits have
relevance to effective leadership, and the visits are debriefed daily. Activities
with a more touristic appeal are left to the end of the program.
On the last full day in the United States, usually a Friday, we wake early and
head for New York City. While there, participants will have an opportunity to
view the Statue of Liberty, visit the United Nations, explore Central Park, tour the
Cathedral of Saint John the Devine, and see the lights of Times Square and
Broadway.
The next day, we are back in Washington, DC. After checking out of the hotel,
we travel to the United States Capitol and White House Visitor Center. Our final
stop before arriving at the airport to return home is the Udvar-Hazy Center, part
of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHTS
Day One
LEAP classroom training begins with an in-depth discussion about
leadership versus management and how the two differ but are
complimentary and necessarily linked. Participants then explore
communication styles, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence. The
group will learn the importance of these three things and how mastery of
each impacts their ability to effectively lead.

Day Two
Session two starts off with an examination of listening skills. Group
members will discuss the value of listening in leadership and how they can
improve their ability to fully understand and connect with others. This
segment leads into the second module, power and influence. During this
part of the course, delegates will discover how to gain influence
regardless of their titles and formal positions within a group. The final part
of the day focuses on motivation and getting the most out of a team.

Day Three
The third day of the classroom program looks at employee accountability,
setting clear goals, delegating, coaching, and navigating conflicts as

they arise. The group will explore best practices and specific steps for
developing and retaining top talent. They will also discuss a proven
framework for addressing unacceptable behaviors and performance
gaps.

Day Four
Day four begins with an exploration of strategic models, tools, and
methods for evaluating ideas and planning for the future. The group will
practice several techniques for solving problems and thinking “outside the
box”. This session concludes with a segment on presentation skills and
executive presence.

Day Five
Our final day of classroom training opens with a segment on facilitation skills
and running effective meetings. Next, the participants will review several
case studies and apply the skills they have learned throughout the week to

LOCATION
LEAP classroom training is conducted in Charles County, Maryland, a suburb of
Washington, DC. This location provides participants with economical
accommodations and access to urban, suburban, and rural sites.

What experience do you have working with international groups?
We have worked with groups from Bangladesh, Tanzania, Azerbaijan,
Turkey, India, Kuwait, and Canada.
How long has your company been in business?
We opened our doors in 2000.
How are you qualified to teach this program?
Our facilitators are credentialed instructors and have held senior
leadership positions with large companies. All have several decades of
work experience.
How do you determine which sites to visit?
To arrange a meaningful program, we survey the delegates and/or
primary contact. We ask about learning objectives, job functions, and
job-specific challenges. From there, we select appropriate sites to visit.
I don’t have a group, but I would like to participate in this course. May I join
another group?
No. Due to the highly customized nature of this program, we have not
found this option to work well and therefore do not offer it.
Will you get me a visa if I need one?
We are not directly involved in the visa process. Please review the
instructions for how to request visa on the website of the embassy or
consulate where you will apply. We will provide you with a letter outlining
the program and your group’s desire to participate.

What happens if I get sick and require medical care while participating in LEAP?
We strongly suggest all delegates invest in short-term insurance while in
the United States. You can find companies offering this product by
searching the internet. Alternatively, we can provide you with a partial list
of providers upon request.
I have relatives in the United States and would like to spend time with them
instead of participating in the site visits. Is this possible?
LEAP is a structured program and follows a fixed schedule. If you would
like to visit relatives or friends while in the United States, we recommend
you extend your visit and see them when the program concludes.
I want to go somewhere not on the itinerary, is this possible?
We do our best to accommodate requests that don’t interrupt the
program. If you would like to try a certain food or visit a type of store, we
should be able to make that happen. On the other hand, if you want to
take afternoon to visit the Grand Canyon which is more than 2000 miles
away, that’s not going to work.
What kind of food and drinks do you offer during the program?
A hot and cold breakfast buffet is available each morning. For lunch and
dinner, we will provide you with a minimum of three options; one of which
will be vegetarian. Snacks and beverages are also available throughout
the day. Alcoholic beverages may be available at some dinners. These
are not covered by the program fee and must be purchased directly by
participants.

offering competitively.
