We have spent the past few weeks learning about the chemistry of fossil fuels. We’ve explored * the chemical composition of hydrocarbons, * the chemical and physical properties of theses molecules and how they change with the chemical structures, * the energy associated with the combustion of various hydrocarbons and * the fact that fossil fuels are non-renewable resources that we are greatly dependent on. We are going to spend the next few days looking at some alternatives to traditional petroleum resources. Today I am going to give you a brief overview of these resources and introduce our project.
