2. ‘BUMP – SHORT HORROR’
The genre of this short film is a Horror, composed with only four characters
these are two young girls and two clowns. As the cast for this film is limited it
allows the audience to feel more involved and creates a more intense
atmosphere. The story line follows such of a typical horror with two young
teenage girls home alone until it comes to light that in fact that may not be the
case.
The film begins by setting the scene, we are shown both girls asleep in bed in
the form of a mid close up/over the shoulder shot this then leads to further
shots of the girls in bed from a canted angle which establishes a sense of
disproportion. This is accompanied by both diegetic and non diegetic sound as
both dialogue and sound effects ( a loud bang) this adds to the suspense and
tension allowing the audience to realise that something is not quite right and
that the equilibrium is about to change,
These mid close ups which set the scene of mystery are combined with dark
lighting emphasising the genre and nature of what is about to happen. This is
important as it is key to ensure sound and lighting fit the genre of the film in
order to not only make it clear to the audience but follow key conventions. For
example if bright colourful lighting was used it would be unclear and may come
across as in fact a comedy or romance.

3. ‘BUMP – SHORT HORROR’
As the story progresses the girls decide to get out of bed and go down to
see what the noise is. As this is happening the ambient music in the
background gets gradually louder. This adds to suspense of the film and
therefore the mystery as the girls make their way down the stairs. One of
girls suggests that she should go and ‘call the cops’ after they hear a
second noise. The music then starts up again, quietly in the background.
This helps to move from the dialogue to music in a way which flows well
and blends together. The music starts off slow, gradually adding pace to fit
with the build up of events.
Many mid/two shots are used this shows the girls relationship and shows
that they are united. Close ups are also used to show the facial expressions
allowing the audience to empathise with the characters. Iconography is
also used as the girls then discover it is only a small dog found in the
basement that is the cause of the noises. However a shot reverse shot is
then used to show that in fact they are not alone down there. This shot
reverse shot works really well as just as they are relived to find out it was
the dog then all of a sudden all is revealed. Accompanied by dialogue ,
backing music and sound effects this is a very strong scene.

4. ‘BUMP – SHORT HORROR’
The credits of this film come at the end; there are no credits featured at
the start of the production. The title of the film however is shown at the
start of the film. Within the credits the clowns face is shown through
out in the background this a is very effective and creative idea as it again
emphasises the genre of the film. Also would have an effect on the
audience after what they have just seen. Also included is a section of
out takes that are show along side the credits.
