Stroll through 1 ½ acres of North America’s
oldest surviving example of an English
Formal Garden and imagine its beauty
amidst the pivotal events of 1676’s Bacon’s
Rebellion. Learn of what the Rebels left
behind in the ancient garden only to have
been found in the 1980s by archaeologists.

Bacon’s Castle has 40-acres to
explore including the 9,000 square
feet of mansion and the 1.5-acre
English formal garden. Elsewhere
on the Site is a 1701 Tidewater
Barn, a smokehouse and an 1820’s
Slave Quarter.
