And that’s according to research by David Van Essen. That’s a large part of your brain power going towards extracting information about the
world with your eyes.

People following directions with text and
illustrations do 323% better than people following
directions without illustrations.
W. Howard Levie and Richard Lentz reviewed the results of 55 experiments and found this to be true. It’s no wonder that countries all around the
world use simple images on sign posts to help motorists find their way.

Teams collaborating on a project use 10% less mental
resources and are a whole 8% more productive when
using visualization tools.
Not just as individuals, but also as teams! You can read about it in more detail here.

If information is displayed visually, individuals are
17% more productive and need to use 20% less
mental resources.
Our own scientific study, carried out by Mindlab International at The Sussex Innovation Centre, compared how office workers manage data with both
traditional and visual software. As we suspected, integrating visualisation into the way we manage and process information increases how efficient we
are.

  • 20. Why Care? Visual Thinking Drives Results Organizes Information Easily Gives Context to Relationships Provides Clarity
  • 21. Why Care? Visual Thinking Drives Results Almost 50% of your brain is focused on visual processing. And that’s according to research by David Van Essen. That’s a large part of your brain power going towards extracting information about the world with your eyes. People following directions with text and illustrations do 323% better than people following directions without illustrations. W. Howard Levie and Richard Lentz reviewed the results of 55 experiments and found this to be true. It’s no wonder that countries all around the world use simple images on sign posts to help motorists find their way.
  • 22. Why Care? Visual Thinking Drives Results Teams collaborating on a project use 10% less mental resources and are a whole 8% more productive when using visualization tools. Not just as individuals, but also as teams! You can read about it in more detail here. If information is displayed visually, individuals are 17% more productive and need to use 20% less mental resources. Our own scientific study, carried out by Mindlab International at The Sussex Innovation Centre, compared how office workers manage data with both traditional and visual software. As we suspected, integrating visualisation into the way we manage and process information increases how efficient we are.
  • 23. Why Care? Visual Thinking Drives Results Project management efficiency improved by 20%; better view into project information; improved online collaboration among project stakeholders. “We have identified time savings of about 20% so far in our Management and Project Management team, resulting in huge operating costs savings. Mindjet enables us to collect information and share it with all parties involved.” I would estimate that our Project meeting times have been reduced by 40 to 60 percent. And because all the thinking going on is being captured in real-time in the interface, everything we do is completely documented by the end of the meeting.
  • 24. Why Care? Visual Thinking Drives Results Con Ed's mind map was recognized not only as critical artifact coming out of the 9/11 disaster, but one that included an aesthetic component as well. In November 2011, David Hill presented the map to New York's Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), where it now resides in its collection.
