QUESTIONNAIRE
Keeley Bernarde
INTRODUCTION

As a group we created a questionnaire of around 14 questions which we
handed out to 40 students aged from 16-18. We asked a range of questions
where we could get qualitative and quantative data. From these results we were
able to see what they thought bullying was, whether they had heard of the
beatbullying organisation and if they had used the website. We also asked
more personal questions for example if they had ever been bullied so we
could get examples of storylines for our production.
HOW OLD ARE YOU? AND WHAT
GENDER ARE YOU?

What age are you?

What Gender Are You?
16
17
18
19

We asked teens between the age of 16-19 to complete our
questionnaires as this is the age group we are targeting our antibullying campaign though the majority of the people filling out our
questionnaires were 16-17 and this therefore confirmed that our
target audience us teenagers. We tried to ask a range of both male and
female as we are targeting our anti-bullying campaign at both
genders, although most males had completed the questionnaires. We
wanted to get the perspective from both males and females and to see
if there is a difference between what they would class bullying as and

Female
Male
WHAT TOWN DO YOU LIVE IN?

What town do you live in?

Dunstable
Luton
Houghton Regis
Other

The people we asked to fill out our questionnaire all
live in Bedfordshire. This is because this is our local
area and therefore we will be aiming our anti-bullying
campaign at the local community as well as nationally if
we share it on the internet.
HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE
BULLYING?

‘constantly picking on a specific person’
‘constant abuse whether physically, verbally, mentally or through the internet’
‘Going out of your way to constantly harm another person mentally or
physically’
‘Constant abuse’
‘constantly harassing someone’

The people that we asked had many different ideas of what they
would define bullying as. Most people said that it was constantly
picking on somebody both mentally and physically from the
information that we gathered we have concluded that there are many
different definitions of what people perceive bullying to be and
therefore in our advertising campaign we need to make it clear on
what bullying actually is.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN BULLIED OR
KNOW OF ANYONE THAT HAS BEEN
BULLIED. IF YES COULD YOU TELL US
WHAT HAPPENED.
‘I was bullied for four years through the internet and verbally in middle
school’
‘people were racist’
‘They were picked on because of their size’
‘I got called names due to my race’
‘A friend was criticised for her appearance and weight so much that she
wanted to kill herself ’
If yes would you be willing to tell us what happened?
- ‘ A friend was criticised for her appearance and weight
so much she wanted to kill herself.’
- ‘They were picked on because of their size’.
- ‘People being racist’.
- ‘I was bullied for four years through the internet’.
WHERE WOULD YOU GO IF YOU
WERE BEING BULLIED?

We asked the people filling out the
questionnaire if they knew of anywhere to go
if they were being bullied, or where they think
would go if they were being bullied or have
been bullied.
The majority of the people that we asked said
that they would talk to family and friends, and
inside the school they would go see the
teachers. Therefore in our anti-bullying
advertising campaign we would include
websites of where they could visit if they were
being bullied and people that they can talk to
such as the beatbullying website.

‘Home’
‘Family’
‘Friends’
‘Teachers’
‘School’
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE REASONS
YOU THINK PEOPLE GET BULLIED?

Sexual
Orientation
Appearance
Race
Religion
All of the above
Most people believed that people get
bullied for many reasons such as their
sexual
orientation, appearance, race, religion.
Therefore in our advertising campaign
we can include scenes to show a person
being bullied because of all of these
things, and hopefully bring it to the
WHAT IS YOUR MEDIA
PREFERENCE?

When asking what Is their media
preference everybody said that it
was either television for the
internet , after finding out this
information we know that we
should show our campaign on the
internet, such as social networking
sites such as YouTube and also
advertising the campaign on
television if possible.

TV
Internet
Magazines
Newspaper
HAVE YOU SEEN ANY ANTI-BULLYING
ADVERTS? DID ANYTHING STAND
OUT?

Yes
No

‘Very effective’
‘More serious than I thought and
happens to lots of people’
‘They stand out when you see how the
person has been effected’
‘Personal stories’
Strong and graphic’

When asking people if they have seen any antibullying adverts the majority of people that we
asked sais that they had seen advertisements
although over a quarter of people said they had not
seen any anti-bullying advertisement. Therefore
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE
IN AN ANTI-BULLYING ADVERT?

‘Show clips of the different aspects of bullying’
‘Helpline details and advice’
‘More realistic’ ‘Definition of bullying’
‘The effects bullying has on the victim’
‘Real life victims instead of actors all the time’
‘Shock value (more convincing)’
‘What it can lead people to do’
When asking if anything
‘Personal stories’
stood out whilst watching
anti-bullying adverts most
people said that personal
stories and showing an
emotional message makes
the advertisement stand out.
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THE
BEATBULLYING ORGANISATION? IF
YES, HAVE YOU EVER USED THEIR
WEBSITE?

Everyone replied with no when asked if they had
ever used the beatbullying website.
Yes
No

When asking people whether they had heard
of the organisation most of people said
no, as this is the organisation that we are
going to be basing our advertising campaign
on and we want to bring them to the publics
attention. Therefore to do this we will include
information on the organisation in our
campaign and then sharing our campaign on
a free range of media preferences such as
social networking sites
CONCLUSION

From this piece of primary research that we have carried out we are now able to
see when our target audience think about the issue of bullying and also whether
they have heard of the organisation. After looking through the results and putting
them into graphs we were able to see that many different people had opinions on
what they would define bullying as, and also they believe that bullying occurs for a
range of reasons. We also found out not many people have heard of the
beatbullying.org organisation and also the people that had had or hadn't used their
websites. This shows us that when creating our anti-bullying advertising campaign
that we should define bullying and show a range of reconstructions of the reasons
that people get bullied. As many people have not heard of the beatbully.org we
would also have to ensure what we include a lot of information on the
organisation as this is what our capaign will be based around, we will also include
a website.
When doing this we will share it on the internet so people can see it like social
networking sites i.e. Youtube, twitter, facebook.
