Paedophiles are represented negatively in our opening title sequence.
However, he is the main subject throughout, making him a significant part
of the film. The shots we have used make him seem sexually frustrated, and
therefore quite unapproachable to the audience as we have shown him
touching himself in image 2 and lightly stroking a clay face in image 4. This
makes him unapproachable because the seductive actions are portrayed in
an unusual way, which makes him seem quite abnormal.
However, we have portrayed him in the film as an average joe, this is by the
way which he is dressed seen in image 5, creating the idea that he is quite
professional as he is a working man. We have hidden his face in throughout
the opening sequence, which cannotes a sense of isolation and mystery and
this makes him seem quite a secluded character, hiding his true identity
beneath his average lifestyle. The idea of him keeping photographs in a
locked brief case seen is photo 3 also suggests the idea of privacy and
secrecy, as though he is hiding his true identity away. This is seen in other
Thriller films such as ‘the call’ whereby the paedophile is represented as an
average Joe, with a job and family, but the audience see deeper as his
actions reveal his undercover life as a mentally ill paedophile.
3. FAMILIES –PARENTS WITH CHILDREN
Our Opening title sequence
represents Parents and families as
the relationship between the young
girl and her family would be
relatable to this particular social
group.
Our Opening title sequence targets
Families, such as parents with young
children
Films such as ‘Man on Fire’ and ‘The Call’ target
the same particular social group as we have in our
opening sequence, as the young girl is being
represented as vulnerable. This vulnerability is
seen in most young children and concerns many
parents. The representation of the young girl
contrasts against the paedophile or kidnapper as
the binary opposite characters exaggerate
eachothers personality, which creates an emotional
impact on mothers in particular, as they worry for
and about their Childs safety.
4. YOUNG GIRLS
Our opening Title Sequence also represents young/teenaged girls as we have used a young who
we have made to be represented in very archetypal way. This is because of her typical features
such as her long blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin therefore she represents a typical English
girl because of these characteristics.
This representation of young girls in our sequence raises a concern about their wellbeing, as of a
similar age, young girls are exploring their sexuality therefore we represent them as being
extremely vulnerable and under threat as a social group.
