2. Conventions
•Fast Cars
•Explosions
•Antagonist and Protagonist
•Damsel in distress
•Ticking time bombs
•Plot
Mise – en – scene
The mise en scene of an action adventure film would
include:
•Lighting – The lighting would usually be quite dark in
moments of action as it would make the scene seem
more mysterious and would also set an uncomfortable
mood, preparing us for the action
•Props – in action adventure the props used would
usually be weapons, these would usually be carried by
the antagonists
•Setting – the setting in action adventure would
usually include a town or city, it would be an area
where a lot of people are and live, this can then be
helpful if there are any people held hostage.
As you can see in the front cover of this action adventure film, you
can see that the main character is the main focus, however there is
an explosion in the background with cars involved. These are
conventions of action adventure and therefore this makes it obvious
to us what type of movie this will be
3. 1. Film Language
The secret of comedy
is timing and
performance. A
person could analyze
routines, gags etc. and
see how they are used
within a narrative
feature. We get
pleasure from seeing
the funny character
getting humiliated or
injured.
The mise en scene of a Comedy film includes:
•Lighting – The lighting is usually light, there are bright colours which
makes the movie seem more joyful and exciting, therefore more
funny
•Characters in a comedy movie would act in buffoon like way. They
would be immature and say things that may be inappropriate if an
adult was to act like this in realisation.
As we can see, The main character in this movie is the main focus
of the front cover. There is a lot of negative space which allows us
to focus on him as the main subject. His stance isn’t seen as a
normal stance as he is stood with both legs apart revealing more
than what he should be. This adds an element of comedy as his
unattractive legs are held at an angle we wouldn’t usually see
which draws attention to his short shorts. The way he is dressed
is quite immature and girly. He is dressed in small clothes to
reveal his untoned body, this is funny because we don’t feel out
of place or jealous of the mans figure, we just laugh at his vanity.
4. Romance films include the conventions:
•Boy meets girl – they fall in love
•Emotional aspect, e.g hero/heroins dad/mum dies.
•Main characters are introduced
•There is often a voiceover to introduce the characters.
•Usually involves hearts and wedding bells
It is clear to us that the notebook is in the romantic genre
because the girl is almost always wearing red. Red signifies
passion and love, therefore also creating a typical
stereotype of females as it shows that she is caring and
sensitive. There is also the story line that the boy meets
the girl and the idea that one of the main characters would
experience a hard time or some form of upset to disturb
the relationship
