About TAG
The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) is a membership organization dedicated to the promotion and economic
advancement of the state’s technology industry. Our mission is to provide members with a rich and broad professional
development curriculum and the opportunity to create strategic alliances. TAG provides leadership in driving initiatives that
influence policy, capital, education, and giving, and we bring the technology community together through events, initiative
programs, and networking opportunities.
TAG was formed in 1999 with the merger of three of the state’s largest technology organizations: the Southeastern Software
Association, the Business and Technology Alliance, and Women in Technology. Since its inception, TAG has been one of the
largest technology organizations in the nation. Today, our 18,000+ membership includes thought leaders from technology
companies both large and small, executives of FORTUNE 500 companies, investors, service providers, government and civic
leaders, and entrepreneurs.
The Technology Association of Georgia aims to build, connect, and enable; people, companies, and communities. Its 31
societies act as a distribution channel for TAG programs, offering over 200 meetings and seminars per year. TAG
coordinates a series of meetings and events including the Featured Speaker Series, the Field Trip Series, and the Georgia
Technology Summit. TAG expands its reach by fostering public and private partnerships with organizations such as the
Atlanta Telecom Professionals, the MIT Enterprise Forum, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and Georgia Department of
Economic Development. In addition to adding value for its members, TAG’s Board of Directors, Leadership Council, and
staff act as a primary catalyst for fostering a rich environment for technology growth in the State of Georgia.
TAG endeavors to help Georgia’s technology companies speak with a strong voice. TAG serves as a liaison to Chambers of
Commerce statewide and beyond to attract new businesses and prospective employers. The Association also keeps members
informed concerning the legislative agenda affecting our industry. TAG actively promotes positive legislative change in
Georgia that will advance our thriving technology community and drive statewide economic development.

strengthen and expand Georgia’s strategic high-tech clusters. The Business Launch Competition is an event designed to help
a local startup technology-based company launch its business. Additionally, each of the finalists, including the winner, will
receive an equal portion of a Suite of Services Package valued at more than $450,000. This comprehensive prize is TAG’s
way to reward high-tech entrepreneurship and assure a deserving Georgia startup company has everything in place to be
successful.
• Each year TAG selects the high-tech cluster that will be emphasized for the Business Launch Contest. In 2013, the
technology industry segment is Internet Technologies. This includes software and hardware companies who are developing
products, online services, or backend technologies which extend the reach, flexibility, and ease of the internet.

CIO Roundtable
• Today, the expectations on a CIO are great. CIOs need to be skilled business leaders with strong cross-functional
skills, have global experience and possess exceptional interpersonal and soft skills. Additionally, they need to have
the ability to be forward-looking, to provide innovation through technology, to re-design business processes and
be proactive in aligning business and IT.

serves as the premier place for Information Technology executives to interact with peers in a non-selling and non-

Excalibur Awards
• TAG initiated the Excalibur awards in 2005 to recognize and call attention to Georgia’s ―tech-enabled‖ companies
who demonstrate exemplary competency in utilizing technology to enhance their business.
• We define a ―tech-enabled‖ as a buyer of technology as opposed to a producer. The best of these companies find
great ways to use current and often times, disruptive technology to facilitate competitive advantage. Every
February, at the Georgia Technology Summit, TAG recognizes the achievements of the top technology companies.
Our Excalibur awards distinguish the people, departments and companies, large and small, who are the recipients
of such technologies.
• The Excalibur award competition affords technology companies, consultants, Chambers of Commerce and other
institutions an excellent opportunity to nominate the companies that understand the importance of technology,
make the investment, and reap the rewards.

Field Trips
The TAG Field Trip program, established in 2005, is one of TAG's most popular events. The inaugural TAG Field
Trip was to Internap and was followed by trips to McKesson and Fiserv.
Each program features a presentation by one of the company's corporate leaders, an in-depth tour, and a
reception.
"There is no other program that regularly provides the depth, breadth, and scope of education obtainable
through TAG's Field Trip program. Our participating members tell us that they are amazed at the level of detail
each host company is willing to share and the significant take-away value they receive through their
involvement." - Tino Mantella, TAG's President
Past TAG Field Trips have included the Georgia Aquarium, Georgia Tech's Nanotechnology Research Center,
Sweetwater Brewery, The Children's Museum of Atlanta, SCAD Atlanta Film and Digital Media Center, and Saint
Joseph's Translational Research Institute.
Would your company make a good TAG Field Trip? Apply to be a host today!
To host a field trip, you must submit your company information and what your field trip has to offer. No direct
selling should be a part of your program.
If you are accepted as a Field Trip host, you must be able to accommodate at least 100 people, have a C-level
speaker, provide staff for group tours, and cover all food and drink costs for the social hour.
