2. This is a certificate I received for volunteering at a community center for a year. While there I
interacted with many different people. We were assigned to spend time with the elderly and
people that had a disability. I would organize the activities with other volunteers for the evening.
I was able to participate with and assist them in activities such as basketball or bingo. From this
experience I learned that everyone is just the same. We all need interaction with others and I was
able to provide that for some people.
3. This is a photo of the Scotia Bank Waterfront Marathon. It is a charity marathon that takes place
in downtown Toronto every year. It raises money for many different charity organizations such
as Heart and Stroke Foundation and UNICEF. I was a volunteer for the event and was assigned to
help out with many things. I assisted in setting up the course and arranged several water
stations for the runners. We distributed drinks for the participants of the marathon as they
passed by. The event was successful and was able to raise money for charity.
4. In this photo are my friends and I during a camping trip a few years ago. We were at Bon Echo
Provincial Park for about a week. Our camp site was located on the island in the middle of the
lake so we had to canoe there. We had planned the trip for a while and we finally decided to go.
I helped organized the trip by helping others pack and get ready. When we went we were well
prepared and adapted to the new environment very easily. We established different jobs that we
each had to do so we all helped each other out. I learned the value of teamwork since we all
played a role that lead to the success of the trip.
5. This is a medal that I earned while on
the Field Lacrosse team in high school.
During that year our team had a
shortage of players and I was the only
goalie. We barely had enough for a
team with only 2 extra players on the
side. This meant that a lot of people
had to stay on for the whole game. Our
coach Mr. Veltman knew we were at a
disadvantage but still coached us for
the season. I earned the medal during
my senior year so I was one of the older
team members. I prepared practice
schedules for the team and motivated
people to attend. We improved as a
team together since everyone
contributed. We learned that we should
not give up when things are not going
our way. We should try our best at
everything and give it our all. We
managed to take first place at the end
of the season.
6. This is a photo of me presenting in my Advanced Business English class. I was with 2 other
members and we were presenting about online banking. Our assignment was to compare
something about two different companies that offered similar things and help make a
recommendation. The recommendation was based on a survey that we distributed and
responded to. We introduced our ideas and helped people with online banking. I designed the
survey myself and created questions that I thought would be relevant to our research. The
survey was a success and were able to get over 30 participants. We obtained adequate research
and was able to make a recommendation to the class about online banking.
